Re: Unclear visa end date

Hi again, Not that I feel entitled replies here (and am always grateful to get them), but does anyone out there have any thoughts on this? Is it unusual to have been given 31 months on a residency card? Do we think it's best to go with the date on the card rather than the factual calendar date? Than...

Unclear visa end date

Hello! My partner was granted further leave to remain under FLR(M) on 22 Febrary 2016. 30 months from that date is, of course, 22 August 2018. So we figured we'd end up scheduling our next appointment with Immigration (to extend the FLR(M) arrangement) in late July/early August. But as we sit down t...

Re: SET(M): Combining employment with self-employment

No it should not, but you are required to provide substantial more evidence of meeting the financial requirements for the 12 months prior to application and financial year end accounts etc. A few refusal recently for spouse visas (outside UK apps) for not submitting all documentation for self emplo...

Re: SET(M): Combining employment with self-employment

From your previous posts it appears she only switched to FLR(M) in early 2016. What date was her spouse visa granted and what date does it expire? Likely valid for 2.5 years which she needs another 2.5 year extension before she becomes eligible for ILR. She requires 5 years residence on FLR(M) befo...

FLR(M): Combining employment with self-employment

Hello! My Canadian partner and I, a British national, live together in the UK. My partner is here after a successful application for Further Leave to Remain through Marriage or FLR(M). We're now starting to think about the next step of the process, which would be to apply for Indefinite Leave to Rem...

Does the new £35,000 threshold affect FLR(M) applicants?

Hi everyone, I've been reading about the new £35,000 threshold and getting nervous about it. For example, the news covered in this story in the Independent: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/petition-urging-theresa-may-to-scrap-35000-threshold-for-non-eu-migrants-soars-over-50000-signatu...

Re: FLR(M): meeting the financial requirement through temp w

The focus on employment seems to have shifted since the new 2012 rules from proving on-going employment to support spouse to simply earning that golden amount so you have nothing to worry about as long as you evidence what they wish to see in the way they want to see it. That's very clear and prett...

Ooh, that's good news. Thank you! Were your circumstances similar to mine? FLR(M)? And you actually used the word "temporrary" on the application?

FLR(M): meeting the financial requirement through temp work?

Hello! I'm hoping/planning to be the UK spousal sponsor for my Canadian wife. We're hoping to move her from a current TIER 5 youth mobility visa onto the spousal sponsor track using FLR(M) (previously discussed here: immigration-for-family-members/youth-mobility-scheme-and-flr-m-t185774.html). Aha. Gotcha.

I'm coming from a TIER 5 situation.

Still sucks though. None of my business, but £35,000 per year seems incredibly high.

Re: Best UK bank accounts for recent immigrants?

For anyone interested, Barclays have saved the day. They match the basic services offered by Santander, but their card is a useful debit card instead of Santander's rather quaint cash card. Hooray!

Best UK bank accounts for recent immigrants?

Hello! My wife arrived in the UK from Canada on a TIER 5 working visa three months ago. It was a real pain in the bottom, but we finally got her a Santander basic account. The difficulty was partly in the usual obstacles to immigrants (no UK credit history, limited proof of address) but also general...

Re: Youth Mobility Scheme and FLR(M)

You can switch from YMS Tier 5 to spouse from within the UK on form FLR(M). The Immigration Rules simply prohibit the following; "Switching into any other Points-Based System route or into visitor status is not allowed". Here's a link to point 35: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/sys...

Youth Mobility Scheme and FLR(M)

Hi all, I'm a British citizen living in the UK. My wife is a Canadian citizen recently arrived here via the TIER 5 Youth Mobility Scheme. We've been married for a year and lived together as common-law spouses in Canada for even longer (I have Permanent Resident status in Canada). My partner came her...

Re: Demystifying the Financial Requirement

Thank you very much, MPH80. That's an extraordinary help. I see all of our options now. My wife is 28 (while I'm 31) so she actually qualifies for a visa on the Tier 5 Youth Mobility scheme. I understand she won't be able to switch from that visa to a more permanent one, but it will give us two year...

Re: Demystifying the Financial Requirement

Thank you very much for clearing that up. I understand it now.

It's terrible though and pretty much leaves my wife and me--both decent and well-educated people--stranded in Canada. Here's hoping the High Court throws this requirement in the bin!

Demystifying the Financial Requirement

Hello Everyone. I find the document relating to the financial requirement completely unreadable. I cannot begin to understand it.
