Income Conversion

If one is getting the pay in US Dollars in another country, how does one convert the earnings into GBP?

1. By converting the US $ into the local currency and then into GB pounds
2. By directly converting the US $ into GB pounds.

Hello,

Anyone knows whether for a visit visa i can get a friend who is a permanent resident in Canada to write me a sponsorship letter mentioning that i am coming to visit him and stuff?
