Maybe that is right at the moment but when the glorification of terrorism law comes in that Citizen will probably get arrested!
He may be arrested and tried but he still can't be refused entry into the UK as a citizen :)

I believe the info on the card goes into the INDECS system that tracks your entire immigration history. I agree, but this information can quite easily be gathered when they scan the machine-readable part of your passport! Hence my use of the word "useless", they're just replicating inform...

I also struggle to understand the purpose of that useless landing card that I have to fill in every damn time. At the very least permanent residents shouldn't have to fill it in! I believe the info on the card goes into the INDECS system that tracks your entire immigration history. I also think it'...

. I mean where would they start unless you are coming back fro Guatanome Bay Well ppron seems to have attracted a fair bit of unnecessary questioning !! Personally I think questioning british citizens without cause is just a waste of time and likely to irritate passengers as there is no way they can...

Dawie, I think these questions are now pretty standard for an ILR holder. Before I naturalised and when I had ILR, I got pretty much the same sort of questions you did every time I entered - mostly "Are you still resident here", "How long have you been away" and "How did you...

Although as regards the 5 year timescale, just because the rest of Europe does something a particular way doesn't make it a good idea. Given that a UK naturalised citizen instantly acquires the right to live and work across the EU, it would make sense for similar broad standards of ILR and naturali...

I think this will happen simply because 5 years for a permanent residence permit seems to be standard everywhere else in Europe. I also think at some stage they might bring in a good character check for ILR. At the moment there is a ridiculous situation that someone who is "not of good characte...

I haven't bothered to do any of that and to be honest there is no incentive on my part to go trawling the depths of Indian bureaucracy to get my name removed from all sorts of lists after almost 15 years of living abroad. I don't live there and have acquired foreign citizenship - the only relevance ...

Re: Working outside the UK when being on ILR

Hello everyone. My wife and I have ILR in the UK. She has a prospective job offer in Amsterdam. Does anyone know if she is allowed to work outside the UK (on the continent) being on ILR and a passport of non-EU country? She has a Schengen visa from travelling to Italy for Xmas (about 4 months left)...

You would need to get a work permit like any non Eu citizen.

To succeed professionally long term in france, being fluent in French is an absolute must.

Don't worry about her "black stamp" in her passport - in fact it will not stop her from coming back under any of the above mentioned categories. However, she will no longer be allowed in the UK as a visitor, student, or anyone where the proof of returnability is required. I've been thinki...

Unfortunately NRIs are Indian citizens settled abroad so voting rights for them ( which they should always have had anyway) are not going to impact OCIs.

Dawie, I would have to dispute your assertion again. That URL makes no mention of Uk ILR holders. What you say may very well be true but given the explicit nature of the wording on the ILR letter as well as lack of clarity about whether the web page refers to long term jersey or UK residents, I assu...

To be specific, my ILR letter had the following wording If you are thinking of going to live or work on the Isle of Man or one of the Channel Islands, you should first consult the Immigration authorities of the Island concerned. This makes it pretty clear to me that there is no automatic right to ju...

My wife applied after 15 Nov via NCS. Turnaround time was 3 weeks. Obviously the time taken varies with the individual but my impression is that for a straightforward aplication through NCS, 6 months is a rather conservative indication. You should probably expect a turnaround time of about 3-4 month...

Congratulations. Once thing that is worth bearing in mind when paranoia strikes is this : It is very rare for a naturalisation application to be refused if the conditions are met. I don't know anyone who has had their application declined. So in almost cases it's simply a matter of waiting and you s...

I guess someone who wanted to live in the channel islands etc with a UK ILR stamp would also have to account for the fact that this would have an adverse effect on their naturalisation residence requirements which only apply to the UK. Why? Jersey is part of the UK for nationality purposes. Section...

Jersey is not part of the UK for most purposes, however it's closely linked to the UK for immigration purposes (because of the Common Travel Area) and it is part of the UK for nationality purposes. In both respects this is different from the British Overseas territories, including Gibraltar. The Br...

And I think it's pretty well established that the holder of ILR is a long term resident. While we're being pedantic ..let's continue splitting hair:) I think you're missing my point. Jersey is not part of the UK and "long term resident"probably refers to a jersey resident and need not mea...

that url makes no mention of ILR holders for the UK. I am assuming that "Other overseas nationals who have no restrictions attached to their stay - for example, long term residents" refers to long term jersey residents rather than UK ILR holders. Of course Jersey is not part of the UK. At ...

NCS definitely do not do character checks. I have seen them go through their entire process. they literally review the documents, put them in a special delivery envelope and post it to liverpool - that being the end of the matter as far as they are concerened. There is no need for hypothesising here...

If you paid for a 1 week turnaround and they accepted your application at the office then the 1 week guarantee holds and they will either have to turn it around by then or give you a refund.

Yes, in addition to that I read on the immigration websites for Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man it is possible for someone with ILR in the UK to work there without restriction.
