No it should not make any difference. Firstly applying for naturalisation does not mean you will be successful and secondly even if your application is approved you do not become a British citizen till you fomally take the oath. Till that time you are an Indian citizen and entitled to an indian pass...

There is no need for P60s etc. and I would argue supplying unnecessary documentation is likely to slow down rather than speed up your application. P60s simply indicate your earnings and (to an extent) tax liabilities for a year and the fact that you were in employment. The naturalisation application...

This topic has been discussed before. the bottom line is that due to a quirk of rules, you can have a right of abode in your indian passport in some cases. however as soon as you apply for a UK passport you are required to surrender your Indian passport at the HC. This mostly applies to kids born in...

In other words, if a British Citizen who also possesses other Citizenship is involved in terrorist activities then the UK Government will have the right to remove their British Nationality. The UK Government already has lots of powers to remove British Citizenship, for example if it later becomes c...

yes i realise that there are some differences but for the life of me i don't see the point in keeping two schemes that are very similar running - I suppose it keeps the babu's occupied. I expect at some stage sanity will prevail and PIO cards and OCI will merge into one status.

From that list there appear to be even fewer advantages of OCI over PIO than previously thought. PIO card holders can also acquire Indian citizenship ( albeit after 7 years as opposed to 5 for OCI). The only other difference is the registration requirement for continuous stays of over 6 months. That...

Perfectly OK to carry a cancelled indian passport. If it is clearly marked cancelled and you're not misrepresenting your indian citizenship status ( which you're clearly not) this is a non issue. No one searches bags looking for cancelled passports and carrying a souvenir is not a crime !

However it is possible for an Indian citizen to have acquired British citizenship at birth and in that circumstance a Right of Abode stamp could be placed on an Indian passport. The Indian constitution expressly rules out citizenship of any other nation for Indian nationals. A right of abode sticke...

I suspect that any request to put a right of abode endorsement that derives from british nationality on an indian passport will be rejected by the home office as I am pretty sure they are aware that India does not allow dual nationality which means that a british citizen cannot possess a valid India...

If your envelope is a special delivery one ( and not just a plain one which they will not use) , then you should get in touch with them. You could try calling or emailing the pio section but realistically the fastest turnaround is if you go over personally to the high commission with your receipt. P...

It clearly depends on the individual case. Some cases are processed in just a few working days and some are obviously taking a few months.

Not everyone's circumstances and applications are the same.

In theory, you can take the test whatever your status but to do that would be pointless as its purpose is to support naturalisation applications and you cannot apply for naturalisation unless you have ILR. However you can take the test now and use it to support an application in the future when you ...

Yorkking, Did you enclose a self addressed special delivery envelope with your application ? If you haven't enclosed such an envelope you are meant to go and pick it up in person at the High Commission on the date mentioned on your receipt ( should be at the back). If this is the 6th then your PIO c...

The bottom line is that unless you hold 'proper' dual nationality with your British citizenship ( and OIC is not that) , naturalisation as a British citizen is an essentially irreversible process. At least under current policy, the Home Office do view OIC as a 'nationality' but a conclusive view co...

Well the moot question is how can one decide whether the applicant 'simply changed mide' or provided false information' unless the applicant is made to take a lie detector test etc.? And how can one define 'too blatantly' OR 'soon after' ? That's why I think these things are unenforceable as they c...

thanks for the information so if one hold indefinite leave to remain in the UK, does he/she need a visa to travel to Ireland? If one is a visa national for Ireland then yes. [Well if you do that too blatantly and soon after getting naturalised then I think there is at least a theoretical danger of BC being removed. That assumes of course that you were not married to a British Citizen when you made your application. But if you have simply had a change of mind after beco...

Re: First OCI Cards Issued

In my view all this self congratulation and hype about having "delivered" on a promise are utterly misplaced. OIC is no more than a visa or ILR equivalent. There is no Indian passport, no voting rights and it is linked to a specific foreign passport. I don't see much difference between thi...
