Thank you for your “kind reminder” that we are only temporarily allowed to work and stay here. We never denied that we do not agree with it. However the fact is, if there is no promise in the immigration rule of the UK to say that after 4 years WP/HSMP you could apply ILR, I believe most of us prob...

You don't have to 'convert' it into taxable income. it already is !!

I am assuming your normal job deducts tax on a PAYE basis so you just need to declare it on your tax return and pay up the additional tax due by 31st jan every year. am i missing something ?

If you are single, you will never feel second class when on WP. However as long as you get married and have children, you will find the huge difference between WP holder and PR holder. I don't see anything wrong with that. Why should someone coming to the UK for a temporary work visa have an automa...

Having said that, this retrospective nature of the 5-year rule implementation is very harsh and unfair indeed. Five years is a VERY long period to wait to get permanent residence and then plan things. Will certainly ward off many skilled people. And to not care about people who would have qualified...

waiting 50 days for a glorified visa is essentially pointless unless you're intending to return for a long spell. A PIO card is issued in 2 weeks ! And registration isn't even such a big deal - you just have to do it once and it's just a matter of submitting a form. Personally, even if I wanted to g...

I am now really questioning my decision to come to this country. I think this rule is really going to back fire on them in terms of attracting highly skilled migrants when many other countries (US, canada, australia) are vying for them. what incentive is there to come to a country where you don't g...

They didn't contact them in my case but I am pretty sure they verify the signature and passport number of the referee against their databases.

There is nothing wrong in using a colleague. As long as they are a british citizen, have known you for 3 years or more and are willing to sign the undertaking on the form that you are of good character and they support your application for citizenship. After all they have to give their passport and ...

I agree with ppron. "Business" visits should do it. As far as the IND is concerned the fact that you have lived within the immigration rules in the UK is what matters. Also the European countries in question clearly allowed you in so there is no question of being of less than "good&qu...

Passports are only delivered by secure delivery . here is no option to choose any other means.

The secure delivery option on the passport form relates to the return of supporting documents not the passports.

You don't have to ever tell them formally if you don't want to bother. As long as you don't use your old Indian passport there is no issue. Technically you are meant to return your Indian passport for cancellation but there is no specified time limit for that. You can do that if and when you apply f...

i am not sure if one shoudl actually request aspecial delivery for the passport, it is a pain, because you have to be home to receive your passport, of course upon receiving the receipt that you were not present, you can get it redirected to your office. UK Passports are always delivered by secure ...

Because as an Indian you should be proud of your heritage and should defy the Indian government's attempts to tell you what you can and can't do in terms of citizenship. If you are a born Indian NOBODY, not even the Indian government, should be able to take your Indian citizenship away regardless o...

What you can do is, Take the naturalization and go back to India. You're suggesting that the OP carries out a criminal act. As soon as he naturalises his Indian passport is invalid and he cannot travel to India without a british passport. The only way he can do what you suggest is by entering India...

I put down Home Office London as it said on my naturalisation cert and it seemed to go through OK. Others seem to have put the place where they had the ceremony and that seems OK too. In any case you give the certificate number at the same time so thee is little scope for confusion. I suspect it is ...

Indian passport is not longer valid once you take up any other country's citizenship. It is however a grey area, as it is 'legally' not valid, but whether anybody checks it is a question! Using an indian passport when you are no longer a citizen amounts to a criminal act and misrepresentation of yo...

The thrust of that article is about the Pound perhaps falling relative to the dollar not the rupee. And bear in mind that would be a 'reversion to mean' scenario and it will probably return to the same level it used to be 3 years ago. The dollar has fallen sharply over the last few years. There is n...

1. You don't have to be British to go to the law 2. In any case, deprivation cannot happen without the person being given due notice. When they do, they seek legal advice, if they're sensible. They then seek judicial review, which stays the hand of the Home Secretary until the courts have reached a...

The point was that the pretext on which certain immigrants were excluded were based on a dubious "european language" requirement for white australia and obviously being a non-aryan in the case of nazi germany. Although neither explicitly stated it, the effect in australia's case was to kee...

With all due respect, we all (who will naturalise, or have naturalised) have (had) the option not to . Very simple. No one is forcing that legislation down anyone's throats. Besides, one could live here very well on ILR, as we all know only too well. I do not see anything wrong with the new legisla...

Re: Permanant Residency status rather than OCI

Having read most of the discussion around the issue of OCI, I think the GOI should refer this as Permanant Residency rather than OCI. Permanant Residents have most rights of citizens and that's what it is there for. Most HOs the world over understand this rather than the incomprehensible OCI status...
