Re: EU2 or WABC?

You are correct there, Shakey. There were certain personal circumstances that prevented us from doing that in late 2019, which was when she would have first been eligible.

Hindsight is 20/20. But hey-ho, here we are, we will soldier on.

Re: EU2 or WABC?

Open an account with the Credit Union and start saving in it. After about 6 months, get a small loan, something like 500 Euro and instead of paying it off in 2 years, pay it off in 2 or 3 months. Then keep saving, wait a couple of more months and get a bigger loan, say 2000 and pay that off in about...

Re: EU2 or WABC?

I actually used to love the Irish weather, but I think I am getting a big grumpy the older I get. I'm tired of wet shoes hahah. For buying a home, may I suggest, if you haven't tried, your local Credit Union. We were very close to actually buying something, our mortgage was pre-approved, when Covid ...

Re: EU2 or WABC?

I lived in the UK for 6 years when I was younger, met my wife there, Ireland is a lot better, the people are amazing and I have made some of the best friends ever here in the last 6 years. (my life seems to move in 6 year cycles) I do agree, I'm probably being harsh to Ireland, but A. I can't stand ...

Re: EU2 or WABC?

It would make our life a lot easier, but: 1. I am currently on benefits, so probably won't get a passport. 2. The job offer she got is amazing, but they will not wait for 2 years whilst she waits for an Irish passport. 3. We want to get away from this terrible kip of a country as soon as possible ha...

Re: EU2 or WABC?

Sorry, I meant the articles I originally quoted, not the actual directive you sent me.
I meant the article on Politico and the other website.

You are correct in your interpretation.

Re: EU2 or WABC?

Yes, I completely get your point in that regard. None of the articles mentioned that Ireland wasn't included in the Treaty. How do we claim residence based on Chen, just move there and then invoke that judgement in our application? Like I said, the Portuguese border control gave me no trouble enteri...

Re: EU2 or WABC?

Article 116 is a Portuguese Article dealing with their aliens act:

How does the Chen judgement work?

Re: EU2 or WABC?

I see what you mean. What about the fact that I have permanent residence in Ireland? I spoke to a Portuguese immigration lawyer who said I can move to Portugal without a Visa under article 116. I went to Portugal in September without a Schengen Visa and the border police didn't have any problems. Wh...

Re: EU2 or WABC?

Did you read the articles? I am not interpreting, I am merely stating the words exactly as they appear in the article? : "However, under a separate EU Directive, once a UK citizen (or any other third country national) has been resident in a member state for five years, they obtain to the right ...

Re: EU2 or WABC?

As far as I understand that's true for UK citizens who have been here under 5 years before the transition period ended. If she has been here for 5 years as an EU citizen, which she was, she retains the right to free movement due to being a long term resident of a member state, which I think will be ...

EU3 PR

Hi I am a South African Citizen married to a UK Citizen, we came to Ireland in late 2014, I was on a Stamp 4EUFam and applied for EU3 PR in 2019 and it was finally granted earlier this year.(2021) Now I'm wondering 2 things: 1.On the card it just says Residence Permit at the top and it's classed as ...

EU2 or WABC?

Hi, I hope someone can help. My wife is a UK Citizen who came to live in Ireland at the end of 2014. I joined her from South Africa and have been granted Permanent Residence in Ireland. My wife recently got a very good job offer in Portugal. As I understand, because she came here to Ireland, an EU s...

Family members of British Citizen exercising treaty rights

Hi, sorry, forgive me, I have a duplicate of this thread in the Ireland board, but people don;t seem to go there often and no-one seems to answer and since this is about EEA-Route and a possible SS case, let me try my luck here : Hi My wife is a British Citizen and I am a South African citizen, we ar...

Family members of British Citizen exercising treaty rights

Hi My wife is a British Citizen and I am a South African citizen, we are currently in South Africa. We are planning to move to Dublin on the basis of my UK wife exercising her treat rights. We might do Surinder Singh in the end, but we want to give Ireland a chance and might decide to live there ins...

Re: ILR on old rules?

Thank you so much Amber and CR001.
Think we'll just go the new rules UK route then. Don't really fancy doing the EU route, plus my wife only speaks English, so there is no way of her finding a job in the EU. We want to be with her friends and family in England, not in another new country.

ILR on old rules?

Hi ... hope someone can help me, there seems to be contradiction info regarding all of this on the UK Government Websites. Background : I'm a South African male who went to the UK in 2003 on a Working Holiday, subsequently studied there and met a British girl, fell in love and got married in 2007, r...
