Apply for another EEAFP in a country I'm not from?

Hi guys! I'm an American citizen with an Irish/American wife, and presently I have an EEA Family Permit. The expiry date on my current EEAFP is expiring and I haven't gotten my EEA Residence Card as of yet. Ordinarily we'd just wait, but my wife and I are visiting her sister in Italy soon, so I prob...

Re: CSI

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here... It sounds like during this break, you are either seeking work in the near future, or you are already hired and just taking a break before you begin your new job. If that is so, I don't think you need to claim as self-sufficient during this period? You a...

Re: Is an EEA Residency Card even required?

You're absolutey right -- it's not required under EU/EEA or UK national law. However, as a U.S. citizen in this exact situation -- residing in the UK as the spouse of an EEA national -- I can tell you your life will be unnecessarily complicated without having an EEA residence card. Opening a bank a...

Is an EEA Residency Card even required?

I was issued an EEA Family Permit and my wife and I are leaving for the UK in about 3 weeks. I'm American and she's Irish/American dual citizen. So the way my wife had planned things in our minds, I would have to apply for an EEA Residency Card quickly after arriving. And then I saw this: As long as...

Re: Durable relationship for gay couple

I can only wish the best of luck to you! Marrying in an EU country may be a good idea -- see what the lawyer has to say. My situation was much less extreme than yours (however much of a straggler the US may be, it's not risky for gay people to live together). But when I applied, my partner and I had...

Hey there! I just wanted to thank you so much for giving me a bit of confidence in doing the application.

I just got my visa back today! It only took about 7 business days. Yay!!

The US system requires the application to be done online and mailed out to NY. They don't do any in-person applications, even if you go to the consulate.

I looked. I'd rather have done it in person.

Re: EEA Family Permit on Visa4UK -- unnecessary questions!

Your choice. You are aware that this is not a postal application and it requires in person visit to the visa centre? Nope, it doesn't. All applications go through NY. Even if you're actually in NY, I'm pretty sure they won't even do in-person. I kind of wish they did. I'd rather blow the air fare t...

Re: EEA Family Permit on Visa4UK -- unnecessary questions!

No risk but just a waste of time and money IMHO. Much simpler to get it in the airport on arrival. Also the chances for refusal are minimal in the airport as you are already here (even if they want to refuse, they need to let you in to appeal in country) which is not the case abroad. Thank you. As ...

Re: EEA Family Permit on Visa4UK -- unnecessary questions!

That's exactly what I did when my partner applied. I am well aware of my rights and not afraid to tell the Embassy/Home Office or whoever else I need to tell. Thank you so much. We've printed off the directives as well, and she is going to cite them in her cover letter. It is really obvious that th...

Re: EEA Family Permit on Visa4UK -- unnecessary questions!

There is nothing that can go wrong as long as your wife doesn't have British citizenship. If she is Irish only, you are married and you provide proof of that relationship, the British Embassy cannot (under EU law) refuse your application. I am an Irish citizen and my partner is Chinese. His EEA FP ...

Re: EEA Family Permit on Visa4UK -- unnecessary questions!

Just of make it clear - you won't get booted after 6 months. The EEA regulations are not like immigrations rules you are familiar with. Rights are obtained automatically and having a Residence Card is optional. You won't become illegal regardless if you apply for EEA2 or not (assuming the EEA natio...

Re: EEA Family Permit on Visa4UK -- unnecessary questions!

Yes, you can put N/A or better "N/A for this case of EEA Family Permit". But if you a US citizen, why bother with an application? Just get the EEA stamp at the airport. Check Q1 in the FAQ for details. Mostly to buy myself flexibility. If the EEA2 application goes over the planned time, I...

EEA Family Permit on Visa4UK -- unnecessary questions!

I'm a US citizen, and my wife is a US and Irish citizen. We're planning to relocate to the UK and I'm doing the EEA Family Permit form on Visa4UK. Here's the thing. There are DOZENS of required questions that I should not have to provide answers to. I don't know what to do. Do I do all this extra wo...

Re: EEA Family Permit or UK Spouse Visa? What!?

ETA: Does the fact that my copy of the lease I just got obviously predates our marriage license date help? She was put in as a co-habitant when I got the previous lease, and officially fully on lease when the near year started in January. The copy I have where she's written in is dated October 2013.

Re: EEA Family Permit or UK Spouse Visa? What!?

Oh dear. I'm not really sure about that. We had been in our civil partnership for three years before that. In theory, the marriage/civil union should mean that you don't need to provide any other information about your relationship, however, as the marriage is less than two years (the amount of tim...

Re: EEA Family Permit or UK Spouse Visa? What!?

So: this is what we provided: Thank you! One more question, because I know most rejections are based on something having to do with the relationship. So I want to be insanely thorough about that. We've been married about 7 months. Same-sex marriage was only legalized here about a year ago, so befor...

Re: EEA Family Permit or UK Spouse Visa? What!?

She doesn't need to be a qualified person for the first three months of her stay; this is called an initial right of residence. Search for this. She doesn't need to have a job before arriving, nor does she need to have applied. I was in the same position in July. I entered (before my civil partner)...

Re: EEA Family Permit or UK Spouse Visa? What!?

Thanks! I am currently unclear whether she needs to fall under one of the "qualified persons" requirments, given that she's in the US with me. She has applied to a couple jobs already in the UK, but nothing exhaustive. She doesn't live there yet, so exactly how much work do they expect her...

EEA Family Permit or UK Spouse Visa? What!?

So I am really confused. I hope you guys can help. My wife and I were going down the path of applying for a UK Spouse Visa. She just went to London to sign to rent an apartment for us, so I could submit my application. We are living together in the US as of now. I'm a US citizen, and she's US and Ir...

Re: Spouse visa -- overwhelmed, doc and expediting help

Obie -- I believe we will have? We will know Friday if she has gotten the job offer for certain, which is for well over 18,600 pounds and can start immediately upon her return. But I do have the full amount in savings, sat in the account for over 6 months, if for whatever reason this doesn't work.

Spouse visa -- overwhelmed, doc and expediting help

Hi everyone! My wife and I plan to immigrate to the UK. She's a citizen of Northern Ireland and the US, and I'm a citizen of the US only. I am reading through all the documentation and I am frankly feeling overwhelmed. I have a few questions: 1. I have read that if you pay an extra fee or go to the ...
