My view is that you can provide the information in any way as long as it is clear and responding to the information required (i.e. full address and dates). If you are typing the letter, that should be clear enough so repeating the information in three formats is unnecessary and would only slow down ...

Dear all, I spoke to the Home Office (customer service centre) yesterday (19th) and they advised that a letter/mail was on its way to me. They were able to tell me that a decision had been taken but that they were unable to check the status of the decision (whether approved, rejected, referred, etc....

Hello. As suggested elsewhere on this board, it is better to apply as soon as you are eligible so you can join the queue.
