Re: Irish Citizenship queries

Hello! Glad you found the information that you needed. I found the site to be pretty straightforward in telling me what I needed. For your son, if you're going to claim citizenship, and then move to Ireland, I would imagine that it would make a good case for him to have a parent in the FBR. I know t...

Re: Documentation for FBR Application

My best guess is that they require the documents for any matrilineal genealogy to track name changes, and for whatever reason, they just ask for them in all cases. No matter, they ask for them, and you have to comply. Honestly, how would they know if you're divorced unless you provide them that info...

Re: Irish Citizenship Through Grandparent - Question on FBR

Yeah, of course. I would think the marriage certificate is vital in the case of name changes. I often wondered because I used my father's father to submit - last names all remained the same. I did submit marriage licenses for my grandfather, father, and myself (even though my last name never changed...

Re: Citizenship through decent

I think I was missing the term "birth certificate" in the original post. You will likely have to submit your long form birth certificate with your father's long form birth certificate. More information is on the Dept of Foreign Affairs page: https://www.dfa.ie/passports-citizenship/how-to-...

Re: Irish Citizenship Through Grandparent - Question on FBR

1. The FBR guidelines state that for my mother they will require: "Original Civil Marriage Certificate (if married) Original Divorce Decree (final) if Divorced and Current Civil Marriage Certificate (if remarried)" My mother has been married four times. The first marriage was in a very di...

Re: Citizenship through decent question

I think you're out for the FBR - it is dependent on the grandparent being born in Ireland. It sounds like your grandparents were born in England.

I assume others haven't responded because they don't know. I don't know. Have you contacted the consulate nearest you?

Re: Citizenship through decent

I don't believe you have to register with the FBR - but when applying for your passport, you will have to submit yours, and your father's. Your consulate will be able to help you out.

Re: eligible to claim Irish citizenship Great Grandparent?

Hello - it's likely that no, your father is too far removed from an irish-born citizen to claim citizenship. If it had been his grandfather that was born in Ireland, then he could register in the Foreign Births Registry. To be sure, you could contact your nearest Irish Consulate and have them confirm.

Re: Online service to obtain Irish documents?

Let's back up - if your mother was an Irish citizen, born in Ireland, then you are already an Irish citizen. Don't you only need your birth certificate and her information? Then you can get a passport? If your mother and your father were not born in Ireland, and only your grandparents were, then you...

Re: Irish Passport Countersignee Nationality

Hello! I don't believe that the nationality of the witness/signee is terribly important. I completed all my paperwork in the US, and had an American who happens to be both a Bank Manager and a Minister sign my paperwork. It was accepted, and afaik, they did not contact her to follow up.

Re: Additional documentation for Foreign Births Registry

Hello! To your first question - no, received no request for further documentation. About your father's ID, I imagine that it is required as listed. Would he feel more comfortable with a certified copy of his driver's license or state ID? This may be a question for your nearest Consulate?

Re: Irish FBR process - London Consulate

Hello! I know it is nerve-wracking to wait to hear back. I don't know if I can help with timing, because I filed from the US, and all our processing is done directly through Ireland. 1) How long is the process currently taking? I've seen some great turnaround stories of 10 -15 days and seen some ter...

Re: Documents Required for Foreign Birth by Maternal Gransmo

Yah, of course!! Super that you have your grandmother's birth certificate. I had to hunt my grandfather's down in Ireland, and I learned he was born in a different county than we all thought. If I recall correctly, the death certificate was in a different office than the marriage certificate. And I ...

Re: Documents Required for Foreign Birth by Maternal Gransmo

Hello Joe! I also found this community to be a great resource!! I filed earlier this year, and I can try to answer a few of your questions. 1. Yes, you need to send in either the death certificate (if dead), or a notarized identification for your grandmother and mother. If you're getting certificate...

Re: Applied for FBR since applications route thorugh Ireland

None of you were born in Ireland or raised here so it's an utter disgrace that you are allowed have an Irish/EU passport. It's a great boon for you as it allows you live and work in the EU without a visa. But it sullies Irish citizenship for the rest of us and it must be stopped and rescinded. http...

Re: Applied for FBR since applications route thorugh Ireland

I think Ireland and Italy are the two remaining countries that grant citizenship based on grandparents, and it probably is a process that will be phased out in the near future. I think I read somewhere that the number of individuals on the FBR is much more than the nation of Ireland could ever suppo...

perhaps that is an argument that you should make to your lawmakers? On this board, it just sounds like trolling.
