You dont have to do any test in advance of landing, but if originating from some countries (like mine - South Africa) they'll give you a chest x-ray for TB at the airport when you arrive.

I'd say declare it anyway. I had one '3-points' offence, I declared it, and it had no bad effect on my application. If anything, I expect the Home Office would give kudos for honesty about what is really a piffling offence. A nice change for a caseworker who deals daily with lies, deceit and out-and...

SD, pick up an application pack from the PO and have a read thru the guide that explains how to fill it in, what supporting docs to send (original naturalisation cert, old passport, etc) and who qualifies to support your application. From what I remember they cant be a family member, and they have t...

SD, congrats! The home stretch (passport) is pretty straightforward - you can get the application form from just about any post office and submit it there too. I'd advise using their 'check and send' service which is cheap and has a turnaround time of 2 weeks, usually less. You'll need 2 colour phot...

Hi SD. You have the confirmation letter, so just need to sit tight now. Postal application processing times vary wildly but seem to be averaging around 2-3 months at present - longer if the Home Office has queries but they would have notified you by now if that was the case. You can expect a letter ...

You can use any NCS.

I live in Scotland where there are none either, had to travel to Newcastle to use the NCS there.

Have you asked your company whether they would be happy with a certified copy? If so, no problem.

You will need the original when you apply for ILR eventually anyway.

I'd write to the Home Office and ask them who should hold it, the company or you. Maybe they could issue a duplicate?

Hi, sorry to hear about your predicament. Your present work permit is only valid for work with the present company, so you'll need to find another that is willing to sponsor a new work permit for you.

I hope it all goes well for you.

With the Home Office there no guarantees, but turnaround times of 2-3 weeks are the norm.

See the thread named (gosh) "TIMELINE AFTER APPLICATION SUBMISSION HERE, PLEASE?" for countless posts detailing quickly -or not- our members' applications took.

Good luck!

Oh I dont know, I left sunny South Africa for the UK 6 years ago and I'm still having a ball here.

My British passport is also very useful for access to EU, and I can and do return to SA often for holidays. Dual citizenship gives me the best of both.

Best of luck to you!

Hey Tintin, You used Check And Send which should see both your original and new passports in your hands within 2 weeks. This seems mostly to be the case - I got my new passport in 10 actual days. My original passport was mis-posted so took longer but that would normally arrive at about the same time...

With a valid and current passport and work permit in you hands you can expect no problems with entry. Expect to wait an hour or two while they check your documents, especially during peak periods. They might put you through a basic medical (TB scan) if you're entering from a country that has a high ...

And a perfectly acceptible increase too in my opinion, seeing as you only need one every ten years.

The linked ID card idea seems to be dead in the water, thank goodness. That would have pushed up the cost dramatcally.

Hi, I'm no expert on this but can speak from my own experience. I arrived in UK on a work permit with my (then) 17 year old son as a dependant. When I eventually became eligible to apply for ILR we made a family application. My son was also granted ILR because, even though he was no longer a dependa...

Dont worry about it, thats the standard wording on all work permits.

It's stating that (a) you can only work within the terms of your work permit and (b) any changes to your work status need to be authorised by the Home Office.

Congrats, and welcome!

A flat share is often less formal and lease-free for newcomers (ie someone else there already signed the lease with the agency). You could do that for a while until you get your bearings.

The Home Office accepts that passports dont always get stamped so would not assume a missing return stamp means you 'stayed there'. When I applied for naturalisation my own passport showed trips to Italy and Turkey from which I seemingly never returned, but I had no queries from the Home Office abou...

Anastasia, character checks sure do extend the waiting period but the length varies. Other posts in this thread show that this can be anything from a few weeks to several months. The reasons why some applications draw a character check and some not seem vague; my guess is it's random, and just bad l...
