Beyond - No you definitely dont need that for a citizenship application. Employment history is crucial for work-permit based ILR applications but does not apply for citizenship at all. Having said that I would still say take along your latest P60 which they might want to photocopy, simply be to make ...

They probably wont even look carefully enough at your passport to notice the South African place of birth. My son has returned to SA twice using his UK passport without a word from customs.

As said by Victoria, if someone slips through with their ILR application theyre probably going to find out at citizenship application time.

ILR applications are often decided in minutes but citizenship applications take weeks or months. I'm pretty sure the backlog isnt the only reason.

I found opening a bank account to be very easy at Barclays. They wanted: passport, letter of appointment and proof of address. Took about 30 mins, and then a week till the cheque book and debit card arrived in the post. Maybe some banks make it easier than others? I had an existing account with a SA ...

Hi Bunny, UK bank accounts are kinda weird in that even the most basic type comes with a cheque book, ie ANY bank account here is effectively a credit facility - and because of that, rules are stricter than in most countries. Banks here will definitely look for a source of steady income and wont ...

Nighat - what kind of visa, HSMP? Loads of timelines for visa applications of all kinds are searchable on this site, start with those.

Its a numbers game, the more interviews you set up the better your chance of finding a good job. I went to 5 or 6 interviews and got 2 offers. Employers are generally prepared to do long distance phone interviews ahead of a face-to-face meeting, but you're massively unlikely to get an offer until ...

No, a year after ILR you may apply for citizenship, and if your application is successful you can gleefully forget all about EEA3, EEA4, PR and ILR :-)

Your wife and son will have dependant status which gives them the same timeline as yours, ie you all apply for ILR at the same time. So your timelines will be the same. After ILR + 1 you are all eligible to apply for citizenship. So theres no need for switching of visa types - spouse visa applies to ...

Hi, yes your numbers are correct. Its usually a straightforward path from ILR to citizenship and the processing time for straightforward naturalisation applications is usually 1-4 months. My own took just 3 weeks. But a lot depends what your original citizenship is. Some attract a lot of background ...

Or do you mean an unsuccessful ILR application? If so, it depends on what grounds it was refused. Your question is too general, can you narrow it down a bit?

Your UK visa is no use for EU travel unfortunately. Whether you need a visa to visit France depends solely on your nationality. What passport(s) do you have?

Thanks JAJ, I'll get in touch with South Africa House and try for the letter.

It may well be unnecessary but a picky immigration official seeing Durban as place of birth on his British passport could theoretically demand proof he isnt a citizen before allowing entry.

Cheers

South African related issue

Hi all, My son recently naturalised here, and of course he forgot to fill in the Section 6 application to allow him to retain his SA citizenship. This isnt a major worry (a SA passport isnt desperately useful anyway) but should he ever want to travel to SA in the future I'm wondering how he would do ...
