You need to do nothing until you apply for your ILR in 2013. Nearer the time, check the latest form set (M). Just follow what is says on the form. All information including BRP is contained in the form. Thank you. I had read Section 6 on the SET(M) form but had missed the big obvious first question...

Biometric Residence Permit

Hello helpful moderators, I'm struggling to find where to locate an application for a Biometric Residence Permit. I understand I cannot enrol my biometrics until I receive an invite to do so, I'm guessing through means of an application. I've read through the HO UK Border Agency section on it (http:...

Thanks Casa. Good to know it's the VAF4a as I was going back to the FLR(M) form for this application. Have you heard any feedback about processing times for this application? We are currently looking into flights back to the UK for Spring 2011. Obviously I'm going to have to hang back until I receiv...

Thanks for the reply, sushdmehta. So I will need to apply for another Spouse Visa then, second to the one that expired in 2008. I take it this will have to be done from Canada, and that this will have to be in place before I'm allowed back in the UK? When I was first researching ILR back in 2006, I ...

ILR Advice: Back and Forth Between UK and Canada

Hello helpful moderators, I'm a Canadian citizen who was on route towards applying for ILR when my husband (UK citizen) and I decided to spend some time in Canada with my family before living in Scotland permanently. I will be returning to the UK in Spring 2011 and want to make sure that I am inform...

Time spent on WHM does not count towards ILR on a spouse visa. You can only apply 2 years-28 days from the start of your spouse visa..So you would only be able to apply sometime in August, rather than in May
Yikes! Good to know. Thank you very much.

Thanks Vinny. I must have been getting a little nervous there. I was just about to reply back to say that I had already written a similar question about a month ago (memory like a goldfish - so sorry to make you work again). I really appreciate the reassurance though. Do you mind if I run this by yo...

Spouse visa, ILR, Citizenship Test, Naturalisation?

Hello, This should be an easy one for you and I apologise if you've already answered it. I've been combing the discussions but have yet to find one that matches exactly. I'm hoping someone can help clarify the path to naturalisation. I'm a Canadian now living here permanently with my husband (UK cit...

Thanks again for the info everyone. It's very helpful. Can I just double check this last point, keeping in mind that I was here for a year originally on a WHM visa, which will bring my total stay time to 35 months on 18/05/08: If I can apply for ILR after 23 months, and I arrived on 18/06/05, am I c...

Pretty demanding, I know! It's definitely a have-cake-and-eat-it-too situation, but we like both countries so much we're really hoping to be able to spend equal time in each of them. If I can apply for ILR after 23 months, and I arrived on 18/06/05, am I correct to say that I can apply 18/05/08 for ...

Even if you then immediately file your naturalisation application, it may be Nov/Dec 2008 before that comes through.
Will I need to remain in the UK until that comes through?

Re: Back and forth between UK and Canada

Time legally spent on WHM may be included for naturalisation purposes. Now, if I follow through with my British naturalization, will there be any restrictions on leaving the country for an indefinite amount of time? We're talking about moving back to Canada in Oct '08, with plans come back to the U...

As the spouse of a British citizen, you can apply for naturalisation once you have been in the UK for 3 years, so in your case this would appear to be Sept 09. However, there are residency qualifications, and if you move back to Canada in October 2008, it is probable that you will not meet the crit...

Back and forth between UK and Canada

Hello helpful people! I'm looking for a little advice on a topic that seems slightly off the beaten track. Any information is very much appreciated as I'm struggling to find these answers elsewhere. I'll be coming to the end of my 2 year spouse visa in September 2008, at which time I'll apply for IL...

A fork in the road to naturalization

Hello helpful moderators, I'm a happily married Canadian living and working the UK; ultimately on the road to naturalization here. I'm hoping to clarify the next steps of the process to make sure that everything goes as smoothly and quickly as possible. I'd also like to ask someone who knows about t...

Evidence of a genuine relationship

My partner and I have been discussing whether or not we'll need to show evidence proving our relationship is genuine. I'm assuming if so it'll be before the wedding? Or will this be done when I'm applying for a spouse visa? I'm hoping someone could offer advice here so that we can be as prepared as ...

Thanks for the excellent information John. That's very interesting. There can be so many twists and turns in the rules that it's easy to see how it gets confusing...quickly!

I'm coincidentally at a wedding this weekend, so the CoA application will be made on Tuesday, most likely.

Yes, we'll be getting married in the UK for certain. As for the church of England: 0% chance of that. Probably not in a church at all for that matter - likely to be on a mountain or some place out of the ordinary!

I take it the England Church complicates things?

What great news!

Thank you both so much. Wonderful prompt replies. I can't fully express my gratitude in these few short sentences but you've been a great help. (If the info wasn't so much in my favour you might have been spared some gushing!)

Thanks again - happy long weekend!

Unexpected proposal. In need of some advice.

Here's the quick low-down on my situation. I've come to the UK from Canada on a Working Holidaymaker Visa to be with my boyfriend who is a UK citizen. My previous plan was that once my 2 years were up, to return home to apply for a settlement visa (ILR), eventually returning (I've heard it can be qu...
