Re: OCI process

Beatallica, 1. What you outlined was my experience and yes it is a stupid requirement to take two envelopes on the first visit. When I went through the OCI process a few months ago I read a message where someone who had not taken 2 envelopes was required by VFS staff to buy a very expensive envelope...

Re: OCI originals not returned

The CGI Birmingham office told me that if I sent the letter from the home office which confirmed that his Indian passport wasn't returned to him, then they may be able to consider the application. I guess this info may come in useful for applicants who've never had their Indian passports returned t...

Re: OCI originals not returned

My date of acknowledgement was 7th July, I just received my originals right now. Unfortunately they want more evidence which I don't have so I'll have to forget about my OCI and ask for a refund. Sorry to hear about that. What further evidence did they want? It may be useful for others who are appl...

Re: Do I qualify for OCI?

I understand providing one parents proof of Indian origin is sufficient. On the VFS website under 'Important Information for all OCI Applicants' it states: If one of the parent/grandparent is of Pakistani or Bangladeshi origin, applicant will not be eligible for OCI. How would they know my dad was ...

Re: OCI with affidavit

satellite, the school certificate has been stamped by a notary though and not a district magistrate/collector, is a notary stamp similar to district collector in India? The stamp says GOVERNMENT OF INDIA I don't know if a notary stamp is acceptable. My reading of the VFS clause is that you can submi...

Re: Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)

forbc123, 1. I think that your baby fulfils the eligibility criteria for an OCI. 2. British passports don't show the address of a person, only their place of birth, which is typically a village, town or city. Note: you can use your baby's birth certificate to apply for the OCI if you prefer, althoug...

Re: Do I qualify for OCI?

Sushdmehta, You could be right but the proviso after 7A (d) of The Citizen (Amendment) Bill, 2015 at http://www.prsindia.org/uploads/media/Citizenship/citizenship%20as%20passed%20by%20LS.pdf states: Provided further that no person, who or either of whose parents or grandparents or great grandparents...

Re: Do I qualify for OCI?

A google search of 'oci one parent pakistan' seems to suggest that you're ineligible, although there are a few successful examples on the immihelp forum.

Re: Passport return

Gulz,

Your passport is returned to you straightaway on your 1st visit to VFS

On your 2nd visit (i.e. after your OCI is approved) you will need hand it in. They will stick an OCI VISA on a blank passport page and post your passport back to you along with your OCI card.

Good luck.

Re: Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)

One question: the information pack says to bring (among other things) a copy of the OCI application. I didn't make a copy when I submitted. Is there a way to download from the VFS website somehow? Or is it OK not to take it? Any experiences would be useful to hear, thanks Hi, I took the following: ...

VFS Helpline told me to also submit the cancelled indian passport, is that necessary? I don't know. My situation is different and I had to submit a different set of documents. My advice would be to take your cancelled Indian passport with you, plus self-attested photocopies of the passport's photo ...

Re: Original Birish Passport needed while submitting OCI App

I have also been told by VFS to carry two sets of printed OCI application form with two sets of photocopies of supporting documents. Is that true or I have been given incorrect info by them? Thanks In my case, VFS (Paddington) retained 1 OCI application form, various original documents (e.g. Regist...

Re: Original Birish Passport needed while submitting OCI App

VFS check your UK passport against the photocopy but return it back to you before you leave.

Once your OCI application is approved you will need to take your UK passport back to VFS. They will post it back to you along with the OCI card.

Good luck.

Re: Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)

Small warning. Just back from VFS in London (Paddington). VFS refused to accept my Indian Birth Certificate unless it was translated into Hindi or English by a professional translation service. The Birth Certificate was issued in the Punjab in the 1960s in Punjabi and Urdu. The Documents section of ...
