According to the OP's post on the HSMP board, she only has a BS in Psychology. As a result, she would likely not be qualified to assume posts in the UK that require DClinPsy, PsyD or PhD-level qualifications as a prerequisite. People with bachelors in the UK do work in the psychology field within th...

Re: Is moving to UK from USA worth it in my situation? Help

Given everything you've provided, I would not suggest that you make the move. From personal experience, I imagine that there are only three reasons why an American should make the move to the UK. Mind you, that's just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. 1) You're being transferred by your co...

Re: Try and apply for ILR

Hi, what if she stays and tries to apply for ILR... or will HO most certainly reject it based on the grounds of overstaying? Unless she was in a coma for the last six months (i.e., exceptionally compassionate circumstances), there is absolutely no way she's getting ILR. Forget it. So here are her c...

Compulsory ID cards for foreign nationals: Proposed roll-out

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith had a major announcement today about ID cards. Foreign nationals will be the first group to be compelled to register, but there seems to be a process to how the cards will be issued. Those groups who have the highest tendency to fail to comply with immigration rules will ...

As a "war baby" now enjoying retirement in Thailand, you are likely born far in advance of 1961. If that's the case, then you are definitely not a British citizen by descent. You have no advantages over any other US citizen without UK ties. If you want a UK passport, you will need to get o...

Or even more simply, she should just apply as a returning resident and have her previous ILR status (which I'm assuming she had when she left!) reactivated. It should not be so difficult considering that she spent so much time living and being educated in the UK. I know that she has been outside the...

OK for example if you have a French or Germany ID card, you may enter the UK on this ID card. So as a Non EU citizen with UK ID card I would think this would enough to enter another EU state. Yes, but bearers of German or French ID cards are by definition German or French CITIZENS. These countries'...

I don't know what your timescale is, but there is a very real possibility that the 10 and 14 year rules may not be available any longer in the relative...

Here's what I will suspect *might* happen. I'm not saying it will, but it's just a semi-educated guess. I reckon that AV as a separate category as we know it will be eliminated. However, I wager that it may be integrated into the points-based system. For instance, if a Commonwealth applicant is tryi...

SO it will still take 3 years or additional Year For someone married to a British citizen, they can become a UK citizen as well in a minimum of three years total if they get enough points by doing things such as volunteering. It can take a maximum of seven years altogether if they don't. If they ch...

Re: New Stupid Law and family member

It seems like they are even making it harder, depressing and complicated new law and calling it green paper. It should be called as toilet paper. The people who migrate do want to be a part of the society asap but they have found a new way to seperate them out. My question is , does this also effec...

I was thinking the exact same thing as I was reading it. I did, however, pick out some new things: - (Soon to be doomed) UK ancestry applicants will now have to supply their chain of descent papers once again. It used to be that the HO believed you if you had already supplied them for your first app...

1963British, I think you should respond to both the consultation just launched as part of this green paper and the citizenship review now being conducted by Lord Goldsmith. I think you have some cogent arguments that you are able to present in an articulate manner. Hopefully your contribution will n...

If you read this http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2008/feb/20/immigrationpolicy.immigration it says "Changes will apply to new arrivals after the new laws are passed, and not to foreigners already living in the UK, so reforms are only likely to affect migrants arriving from 2010" is it ...

I totally agree with you. I'm just saying that for your own sanity, if you can find your way into one of their favoured categories, do it. It will still qualify you for the ten-year rule should it still be around in Sep 09. However, if the HO decide suddenly to get all arsey and retrospective about ...

Re: The end of the 10/14 year settlement paths?

What you are saying is absurd! The changes proposed are to be imposed to gain british citizenship. There are no reference to anywere that these changes would affect migrants applying for ILR. I'm sorry to have to insist, but I'm just reporting what the consultation documents are saying. I think wha...

The end of the 10/14 year settlement paths?

Within today's consultation document, I did not find any reference to the long stay paths at all, and following the logic put forth, I would not be surprised if they are removed entirely from the Immigration Rules. This is the future, non-EEA kids: You've got to put yourself on one of the three path...

After 5 years on work related visa, in your case HSMP, you would be granted probationary citizen for 1 year minimum after which you could opt to apply for British citizenship or permanant residence (if you qualify). I think you can retain permanant residence status for a fixed period, after which y...

And I agree, they're going to end up missing out on highly skilled immigration to places like Canada or Australia. The thing that's working well for the UK is the speed of the process. For Canada, the waiting list is 4 years from the US, or even more from the UK at last count. But - they give you I...
