As far as I am aware, the anti-money laundering regulations apply to a variety of advisors. In fact anyone dealing with High Value Payments items (i.e. over €15,000 or roughly £9,000) mainly in cash or equivalent is caught by these regulations. It is unfair to single out just accountants or lawyers....

Re: Texas Attorney/Producer seeks WP while currently in UK

Your TWES suggestion is intriguing. I looked into the exams to become a solicitor, which would make me a much more attractive sell in the job market. I may still consider this option although it would require me to spend money as opposed to making any. You do not necessarily have to spend more mone...

You may also wish to explore the TWES route to see whether you qualify under that scheme. I have just double checked. As suspected, Work Permits (UK) do not issue TWES for the sports and entertainment sectors. You could however go on the TWES on the basis of training for a professional qualificatio...

The fee is either £500 for a premium (in-person application) service or £335 for a postal application. That's not quite true. For a TOC application, the postal fee is "only" £160. Sorry! You are correct. The fee is indeed £160 for postal application but the £500 remains valid for the prem...

If you want to transfer limited leave to enter or to remain in the UK to a new passport, you will need to use Form TOC. Here's the link http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/6353/11406/TOC250506.pdf The fee is either £500 for a premium (in-person application) service or £335 for a postal application. Fra...

There was a time when you could expect 100% confidentiality from professionals like lawyers and accountants. Then we got a Labour Government. Now, not only are professionals required to disclose a whole range of confidential information, it is actually mandatory. Further, it is a criminal offence i...

The Entry Clearance Officer will try to make a decision using the application form and the supporting documents that have been provided. If this is not possible, they may need to conduct an interview. One of the criteria that needs to be satisfied is that both of you have met each other before. If t...

You qualify for ILR on the basis of your work permit (5 years) OR long term stay (10 years) whichever event occurs first.

1 1/2 + 3 1/2 on WP = ILR
10 years legal stay = ILR

Any other combination such as 1.5+4.5 or 1 1/2 +3 1/2 = 10 legal stay is rather misleading.

I don't agree ... HMRC will no longer accept PAYE end-of-year returns containing any TN NINOs. Employers must now use real NINOs when making such returns. If thats the case, what would a company do if it employed Mr X without an NI on the 1st of March and X left the company on 28th March. Company i...

You don't need to do anything, your wife is ALREADY domiciled in the UK. So stop worrying. I worry about conclusion like this. It is far too simplistic! I suspect if it is that easy, most tax advisors especially Inheritance Tax (IHT) specialists, would have retrained as plumbers by now. When I last...

However, becoming UK domiciled is not such a great status and many Britons seek to avoid it in all costs. I would beg to differ and say that this is not necessarily the case. Admittedly most people would benefit from their non-domiciled status but it really depends on individual circumstances. Some...
