Applied via EU3 on May 16 ( the date stamped on the confirmation receipt ) , and the application was granted on November 30 . Apparently , yes . I have heard of people who applied for long-term residency(can't remember the technical term) after being in Ireland for 5 years on work permits ; took about 3-4 weeks to attain in Limerick area .

If someone is applying for naturalisation on the basis of having resided in Ireland for the previous 5 years their marital status is irrelevant . Currently applications take approximately two years to be processed . Do you need to apply for Irish residency ? No .

Scrudu , I have also been told that EU 1 and EU 3 applications must be dealt with in 6 months ; this was confirmed by justice dept . helpdesk . The consolation is that this is only a one-off application as it provides for permanent residency (assuming it is awarded). How long does EU 1 provide residence for ? 1 year ? Once your application has been lodged and acknowledged , you will then have to wait a further 2 years before your application for naturalisation is either allowed or denied .
