For anyone interested, I have just had my passport returned and I have been given Further Leave to Remain until 17th September 2010, so that's four years.

I will of course be applying for ILR next year though :D

I would probably recommend leaving the documents behind, after eight years working for an airline in the lost baggage department, I know all too well what happens when luggage goes missing, it's quite frankly not worth the risk. And sods law states that it will be on that flight, and that bag, that ...

I moved to the UK from New Zealand four years ago now and am happily well on my way to citizenship, and have no plans to move back to NZ anytime in the future. It is entirely possible to move to another country, be happy, settle down, and not want to go back to where you came from. The UK is a great...

Be sure just to check the link that I included in my above message. I edited it shortly after I first responded. You might find it interesting to say the least.

All the best,

So I guess you won't be applying for ILR then. I can't say I blame you. It's probably better to go with a 100% chance of approval for FLR than a 100% of a major spot of bother if you go for the SET(O). When you originally applied for your ancestry visa back in NZ, I'm guessing you supplied the same...

Ancestry to FLR - birth certificate question

I will be applying for FLR at the end of this month, and am a bit uncertain about the birth certificates I need to supply with my docs. I have CERTIFIED COPIES from the GRO/central records offices of my birth certificate, my father's and grandfather's. Now, technically, these are not ORIGINAL's are ...

I've always been confused by this term "desirable" with regards to this issue. What does this mean? If the purpose of this change is to encourage attachment to the UK, I must say that it's inadvertently having an opposite effect. Well, for me at least. Secondly, it seems that no one in Go...

Here is a reply received from a friend's MP - Paul Farrelly (Lab, Newcastle under Lyme) "I received a reply from my MP today. Dear Ms XXXXX, Thank you for your recent letter in respect of the changes to the immigration rules. When changes in legislation such as this are made there has to be a c...

I wonder what they're doing with all the spare time, given that ILR applications would be virtually zero at the moment!! That's easy to answer, they are dealing with the same number of applications, they are just on the FLR forms rather than the SET(O) forms (basically identical) and they will be p...

The issue I am not clear on is this........ Surely, no matter what visa category we are talking about, the points-based system ONLY applies to actually getting the work permit. As far as I know there will be no points system for applying for ILR no matter what visa you had leading up to your applic...

Does anyone know if they will try and apply the points system to those applying for ILR from an ancestry visa? If they do this, then I will be stuffed!

There was quite an informational article in the weekly TNT magazine released yesterday about the VBSI demonstation on Friday? (Is that you, Miss Oceania?) Well done. If you can't find a copy around London--which is quite unlikely--you can also read it online. The story is on page 36. http://www.tnt...

It states on the FLR(O) form that the birth certificates are required, it's basically the ONLY difference between the FLR(O) and the SET(O) forms! And it states on the forms that originals are required too. "James" suggested I should write a covering letter explaining why originals can't b...

You will be required to provide the ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES for your grandparent, parent and yourself with the application. This is despite having already provided these docs in y...

I'm willing to entertain the idea of being a test case for this, but there are some limitations to my being the guinea pig. Firstly, I have an Ancestry visa, so it may not create the same precedent for WP/HSMP holders. Secondly, I cannot apply for ILR until this time next year, so people might not ...
