Re: Marrying an illegal immigrant in the UK

Speaking also out of the box, I would imagine that as this involves a criminal offence, the decision whether you as a couple could live in the UK would come under guidance rules on the internet. For a problem I had, I found out that unless the criminal sentence was a non-custodial one (such as a fin...

Financial Requirement - bank stationery

I meet the Financial Requirement to being my overseas spouse into the UK. However, my money is in an online account in this country. I will ask this online bank to supply a statement of transactions for 6 months. The issue is one of presentation. I know that some banks these days only print out tran...

Spouse visa application waiting time

I am trying to find the waiting time for a spouse visa to be processed and a decision made from the Republic of Moldova. The Gov.Uk website gives the times for other types of visa from the capital city of Chisinau, but not for this one. Are there any ideas? https://visa-processingtimes.homeoffice.go...

UK leaving UK and Irish passport holders

There is a rush of people in the UK with Irish parents to get Irish passports, in case the UK leaves the EU. What's your thoughts on this idea?

Re: How much chat/messaging info to provide?

For what it's worth. I asked an immigration lawyer last week about the number of skype chat messages I need to show. I said I had some from the start of our relationship and some from the middle month our relationship. Just a sample. He considered printouts of those as sufficient. These, with copies...

Re: Time out of country

Appreciated. So in the event of her living her for the 5 years to getting ILR. She can then apply for BC. However, if she applies at that time for BC, after getting ILR, she will then have to live in the UK for 9 months in the year after ILR to qualify (ie in the 6th year)? Or in this situation, pos...

Re: Time out of country

Thanks for the post. So maybe I have this wrong. My wife cannot apply for UK citizenship until she has been here for 5 years and received ILR. In this 5 years, those more liberal UK residency rules apply. After she receives ILR, and she can then apply for UK citizenship, then she has to live in the ...

Re: Time out of country

I think we are both on the same page. As you say, the applicant for UK residency can leave the UK for about 6 months in a year (preferably with her husband, otherwise there will be questions raised as to whether they are in a real marriage) without it affecting his or her visa. The rules on this dep...

Re: Time out of country

Understood, but the idea is the same. I believe that in the final year of the 5 years period to permanent settlement, if the applicant from outside the UK wants UK citizenship (as well as residency rights) he or she should be aware that more rigid UK residency rules apply. So they need to remember t...

Re: Time out of country

This is something I asked about a time ago, and the upshot is that for leave to remain, the UK absences rules are quite flexible. Where there is an issue, I understand, is where citizenship is later wanted. In order to qualify for UK citizenship, you cannot leave the UK for more than 90 days in a ye...

Re: Genuine relationship 4500 pages of FB convo. pls help

I'm generally not qualified to speak on immigration matters (as the moderators here can amply confirm!) but I'm not sure that ECO's appreciate people bombarding them with hundreds and thousands of copies of internet related messages. I have no idea, but I imagine that busy ECO's simply skim through ...

Re: Genuine relationship 4500 pages of FB convo. pls help

I have a similar predicament. I did not screenshot let's say 500 pages of Skype calls, but with respect to Facebook and Skype messages and calls, also for emails, they may not be the best pieces of information you can give. After all, anyone with a mind to can create an account and get his "acc...

Re: Urgent! Adequate Maintenance UK Spouse Visa!

Reading the "Immigration Directorate Instruction ... Adequate Maintenance and Accommodation (August 2015) document. With respect to the spouse visa. There are calculations inside of how much income the sponsor must have to meet these requirements. However, would someone who depends for his Fina...

Norarisation of UK sponsor supporting documents

I am sponsoring, as her husband, my wife to come here with a spouse visa. I know that the supporting documents she submits should be translated (where they are not in English) and then notarised, to validate them. However, do the supporting documents I supply her also have to be notarised (in the UK...

Re: Will it be easier for non-EU parents if the UK leaves EU

One of the criticisms made is that if we withdraw from the EU, and the nationals of Spain, Italy, Germany, etc. then need visas to come here, their countries will retaliate by requiring UK tourists to have visas to go to the Costa del Sol, etc. The travel expert on the BBC News quashed that idea. Th...

Re: Spouse visa correct forms

The Financial Requirement can be met by the applicant or by myself, as her UK sponsor. In my case, she has next to no money, so I am able and need to meet it wholly from my UK bank account. Which I will do. However, and this confuses me. Even though the money I register to meet the Requirement is al...

Aside from this letter from me, is there anything else I need to supply her (them) with as her sponsor - in my own name please? I refer to mandatory documents.

Re: Spouse visa correct forms

Ok. So the PDF of the Financial Requirement form (the 2013 version is the latest one I can find on the internet) is completed by myself. It is categorised as a supporting document. But my wife signs and dates it? She signs off the information I give her on my finances in the UK because she is applyi...

Re: Spouse visa correct forms

Thanks again. I know the query is basic, but it needed to be asked, I think. A bit surprised about the fact that to meet the Financial Requirement, her overseas savings and/or income could be taken into account though. I always thought that it was the UK sponsors that they were only interested in fr...

Spouse visa correct forms

My wife completed most of the online spouse visa application form in her own country. However, I am confused over the forms. There was a PDF version of a spouse visa form VAF4A to print out and to fill. I presume this "new" online version run by Visa4UK, one that you register for and fill ...

Thanks again. I am thinking of submitting in July, despite there being a few complications which I hope/think we can explain satisfactorily. There is a class of documents where we will ask the writers to date the letters close to the expected date of submission.

Spouse visa - supporting documents age

For the supporting documents for a spouse visa. What should the "age" of these supporting documents be? I know that the Financial Requirement statement has to cover the most recent 6 months' period from the date on the statement. I imagine that this document needs to be submitted as soon a...
