Re: Upcoming Ceremony in 2023

Think it may be helpful if many of us who are still awaiting a decision writes to our TD for the need to push for naturalisation without the ceremony until at least the backlog is cleared. This seems to be a deliberate waste of resources and time. Well, I spoke with my solicitor about it, but she s...

Put simply.. The only way it is a "positive" move is if it speeds up the process
For someone arriving in Ireland now I think its quite helpful. I can imagine the number of fishing licenses will increase due to people looling for an eqsy extra 10 points :)

Re: Citizenship by Association - Certificate

Hi, I applied for citizenship based on Irish association. My application was successful and today I received my certificate. However, nowhere on the certificate does it state naturalisation was based on Irish association, is this correct? In the future, how would anyone know my citizenship was base...

Re: Citizenship by descent/association

Hello, my spouse and I are currently living and working in Ireland (we are Canadian); my spouse is on a Stamp 1 and I'm on a 1G as their spouse. We've been here 3 years now and I'm thinking of applying for citizenship by descent. I'm not eligible for the Foreign Births Register because my most rece...

Re: New point system help. What to put for P60 if wife is a housewife

You are right Littlerr. However, there are some certain cases as follows: For a rent agreement, sometimes it was signed by one spouse rather than by the couple with the landlord. We could go back to the landlord and re-sign it so would be ok. For bank, my spouse got refused by AIB as the bank said ...

Re: Citizenship Applications From 2020 Pending Approval

Anyone get decision before the 12 weeks in their reply after first warning letter from solicitor to them for JR? Or how long? I didn't even need a solicitors letter got get them to hurry along. A letter making clear I would go for a JR was enough to get my decision within a few weeks. I would recom...

Re: Irish Associations - Denied

One thing you might be able to challenge them in the court is the definition of 'association'. The current interpretation seems to suggest that Irish association means the person you are associated with were naturally born Irish. They've never been able to provide a clear definition of that (for th...

All of your answers are answered on INIS's website. https://www.irishimmigration.ie/how-to-become-a-citizen/applications-based-on-irish-descent-or-irish-associations/ The wording on waiving reckonable residence is: An association going back two generations without any other link to the State is gen...

Re: Irish Associations - Denied

I applied for citizenship through Irish associations relatively prematurely. Normally, the general rule of thumb being you have minimum 3 years reckonable residence. I applied after 1. Therefore, I was not entirely surprised that it was denied. However, what I am now uncertain on is two-fold: 1) in...

It would make our life a lot easier, but: 1. I am currently on benefits, so probably won't get a passport. 2. The job offer she got is amazing, but they will not wait for 2 years whilst she waits for an Irish passport. 3. We want to get away from this terrible kip of a country as soon as possible h...

Re: Current processing time updated to 23 months

All covid did was highlight how woeful and outdated the processes are under the current system. Applications were never going to slow down, literally as time was going on people were able to acquire more reckonable residency so applications only going to increase and make the backlog worse. Not only is there a legal definition the six week rule has zero legal standing. The government deciding all of a sudden in 2016 that this is a rule doesn't make it statute.

Re: Irish citizen siblings is not considered as sufficient based on being the parent of Irish citizen children

He registered on the FBR after my birth. My father didn't know the intricacies of Irish nationality law in the 80s unfortunately. Still, if it shaves 2 years off my qualifying for Irish citizenship myself, there is some benefit. Although you are eligible to apply for naturalisation by Irish Associa...

Read the OP again. His great-grandmother was born in Ontario, and their parents were born in Wexford. That's 5 generations back, with no residency or FBR. Now as per your link - https://www.irishimmigration.ie/citizenship/applications-based-on-irish-descent-or-irish-associations/ "An Irish ass...

Re: Irish Citizenship based on ancestry/associations

I'm not sure why you are getting so defensive on this. I am sharing my opinions because they mirror what the OP was asking. When I did research via official channels (pre-covid), it was told to me that it would be very very unlikely to get citizenship on great-grandparent association, only with exc...

Re: Irish Citizenship based on ancestry/associations

"It's going to be 2 years in a few months time since I became a full time resident in Ireland" The OP was asking whether his great grandparent gave them any associated entitlement to Irish Citizenship, of which it does not. So I was suggesting that they, just like myself who found themsel...
