Re: First passport application

I finally got an answer to my question, so I'm sharing it in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situation. Basically he has to be guided to make his mark in the box where you would normally sign, as he's obviously over 18, and we have to include a letter saying why he couldn't sign. Hope this...

Re: First passport application

Thanks for the replies. I've tried asking on Twitter, as suggested, and received no response. There's still no response to emails either. I'm sure my husband can't be the only blind person who's wanted to apply for an Irish passport. I hope we get some sort of response from them soon.

First passport application

My husband recently got his FBR and is now in a position to apply for his passport. He is totally blind and is therefore unable to sign his application. Does anyone know what he can do in these circumstances? We emailed the passport office about this a few months ago and again more recently, but sti...

Re: Foreign Births Registration question - please help!

No he doesn't. As your dad's dad was born in Ireland your dad is an Irish citizen. It's just you that needs to go on the register to become an Irish citizen.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

My husband has finally received his FBR certificate. FYI he sent his application on 4 October and they received it on 5 October. The certificate is dated 31 March and the cover letter is dated 11 April. As I said, it was received today 28 April. Good luck to all of you still waiting.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Hi Everyone, My mother's father was born in Ireland in 1899, so have applied for my FBR, on the 17th January this year, in London. It's only been 3 months, and I understand London is particularly overwhelmed with applications, but I wondered what the email is or phone number to call that some of yo...

Re: Foreign Births Registration - Need to move while waiting

It's exactly 7 months today that my husband's FBR application was received and we've had nothing yet, so you're going unlikely to get it back in time. I don't know if the embassy will allow you to change your address. Is a mail redirect set up with Royal Mail a possibility for you?

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I am applying through my grandmother for FBR. I have all the documentation needed, but have one problem. The checklist calls for certified/notarized copies of my mother's and grandmother's license or passport. I have the originals of both, but as they are both deceased, I can't get it notarized. Is...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Interesting. i am also applying via london. was yours a straight forward application or is there anything that could have made yours take longer? Yes, it is a straight forward application. I think they've been inundated since the Brexit vote, so it's just being patient. If you email them for an upd...

Re: Can I Get Citizenship From Irish Grandparents?

As your grandparents were born in Ireland then your mother is deemed to be an Irish citizen, even though she wasn't born there. You can then apply for FBR on the basis of your mother being an Irish citizen. The FBR process is taking over 6 months at the moment, according to an email we had from the ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

UPDATE My husband has received an email today advising him that due to the exceptionally high number of applications they have at the London embassy, they are currently taking longer than 6 months to process FBR applications. My husband's application was received on 5 October, so we've been waiting ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

***Update*** I've just had an email from the department of foreign affairs in Dublin, my proof of address documents have expired and they need new ones. Also as my parents weren't married they need my mothers birth certificate which I didn't even know was a requirement. So keep your eyes out for an...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

We had a response off the embassy and they said they cashed the draft to prevent it from expiring. They said the application itself is still the processing queue. It looks like those who applied before September got lucky with the time it took.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

My husband applied for FBR on 4 October and they received the application on 5 October. We contacted the bank to see if the bank draft had been cashed yet and they told us it was cashed on 30 December. We still have not received anything back though and are now quite concerned about it as, obviously...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

My husband applied for FBR in October, so judging by other peoples' experiences, he should hear something in a few weeks time. We are also planning to go to Liverpool for his Irish passport. It's interesting what Doomster has said about the passport photos at Liverpool. I personally didn't see anyth...

FBR Question

I'm a British citizen and my husband is an American citizen. We live in the UK and my husband is looking to apply for Irish citizenship by descent, as his grandfather was born in Ireland. We have looked at the FBR website and understand that to apply for FBR he has to be able to prove descent. My hu...
