no mate as long as your providing the funds, both of you have comprehensive health insurance + kids if any have health insurance and your spouse is not claiming public funds your ok don't worry.

it say '' ATLEAST TAKE UP TO 6 WEEKS''

and as you said your willing to take the risk as citizenship was priority then my opinion would be not to request your passport back as you know it might delay your application process
