I received HSMP approval under the old rules, and I am now preparing to apply for EC. An IELTS report or letter from university was not a mandatory requirement under old rules. Given the new HSMP rules where proof of English proficiency is now mandatory, will I need to provide the same for EC ?? Any...

Did you request for your EC to be valid from 25-Feb verbally or through a cover letter ?? regards OK. Today, the Entry Clearance was issued to me and my family. No Medical, No interview. Period. One point to note: I had requested the EC to be valid from 25 FEB, but I got it to be valid from the date...

Approval under old rules. Do I need new IELTS for EC now ??

Hi, I received HSMP approval under the old rules, and I am now preparing to apply for EC. Was wondering if I must submit the following for EC:- IELTS report (less than 2 years old) or a letter from university certifying that my graduation was in English medium. AS you are aware this was not a requir...

Alex, My comment was regarding switching visa categories (HSMP dependent to HSMP main) from within UK - which is not possible for an HSMP dependent. An HSMP dependent can surely apply for HSMP approval on his / her own merit from inside (and even from outside) UK, but upon approval he / she must ret...

you can't do an in-country switch from dependent to HSMP main .. irrespective of whether you are an in-country or out-country applicant.

Re: FLR: student dependant spouse switching

while I'm the main hsmp applicant, can my wife, who is a postgraduate student in the UK, switch to an hsmp dependant visa while still in the UK? Yes she can ! Just out of curiousity - why would you want to do that ?? If yes, can we use the FLR(HSMP) form for her? Yes provided you are applying for F...

A word of advice - Don't use them if you think you might need to change the dates later. Rescheduling through them is a PAIN !! Otherwise pretty good service.

Re: Got HSMP but might leave UK - loss of trust in UK!

I got my HSMP extension for 4 years, but since I had so much stress on these very unfair restrospective changes and tougher immigration procedures for skilled people like us, I am considering to leave this country where illegal immigrants are able to stay as long as they want unless they plan a ter...

Shaggy,

EC and count for ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) are two separate things.

EC is valid from the date of issue upto the date of expiry as mentioned on the visa.

Count for ILR starts the day you enter UK. You can apply for ILR only after 5 years.

1. I paid in cash. No problem; in fact the VFS only accept cash. VFS does accept bank drafts favoring the relevant High / Deputy High Commission for the visa fees. The draft can be from any bank but payable at the location where the BHC is (e.g.- if applying to BHC Chennai, the draft has to be paya...

Chances remain the same !! Your HSMP approval becomes invalid after 6 months of date of issue. So if it is issued dated 21-Aug-06, your application for EC must reach the British High Commission / Embassy on or before 20-Feb-06. That's it !! Your EC, though, will depend on the evidence you provide to...

Choose any of the options:- 1. Try and speak to your caseworker (difficult, but some people were lucky in the past). Another 2-3 weeks and you case will cross the 14 week threshold, and this could be a good excuse to "demand" a dialogue with the caseworker anyway. 2. Wait and watch. 3. Wit...
