Can I lose Permanent Residence after I receive my card?

I am a French citizen and I have a Permanent Residence card which confirms that I acquired Permanent Residence in 2012. I have remained living in the UK since that date. However, if I leave the UK for a period of more than 2 years in future, will I lose my Permanent Residence status, even though I h...

Re: Naturalisation - not physically present in UK 5 years before application

Hi Forum members, I have read ur valuable comments about physical presence in UK for citizenship. So if one in applying on 3 years basis they require to be present in uk exactly 3 years prior to date of application. Lets say if one applies on 7th March 2019 on the basis of British spouse, one has t...

Re: Applying for PR with a UK spouse

My question is whether my marriage to a UK citizen means that I can apply for PR any sooner than 5 years after my return to the UK in December 2015? No you cannot. I can see that for a naturalisation application, the residence period is shortened to 3 years with a UK spouse. Citizenship laws are co...

Applying for PR with a UK spouse

I am French and came to the UK in 2002, and I lived here continuously until 2013. I married a UK citizen in 2008. From June 2013 to December 2015 I lived in the USA. I moved back to the UK in December 2015. Given that I was absent from the UK for more than 2 years, I understand that I will have lost...

Re: Naturalisation - not physically present in UK 5 years before application

Re: Form AN - Proof of Living in the UK

Hi Dan, in the end I supplied letters from HMRC, SA302s and letters from the NHS regarding hospital appointments. I understand this type of document is the next best evidence. However, I haven't received the results of my application yet.

Re: Naturalisation - not physically present in UK 5 years before application

Thank you for clarifying. It sounds like if the case worker decides not to exercise the discretion, I will have to re-apply and re-pay the fee. I found the following two threads which give me a small glimmer of hope - in both cases, after submitting the application the applicants received letters fr...

Re: Naturalisation - not physically present in UK 5 years before application

Thank you, I guess I will have a very nervous 2 month wait (that is what I was advised the current wait time is at the NDRS appointment). I can't decide whether I should call the Home Office now, explain my mistake and beg them to exercise the discretion outlined in the guidance. Or alternatively wa...

Re: Naturalisation - not physically present in UK 5 years before application

Thank you, that is what I feared. Unfortunately I was 100% away on the day 5 years prior (if I had submitted the application 1 day earlier or 2 days later I would have been fine). I thought about calling the Home Office but the fee has already been deducted so I thought there would be little to gain...

Naturalisation - not physically present in UK 5 years before application

I recently submitted my application for Naturalisation online. Unfortunately I have just realised that my list of absences from the UK for the past 5 years includes a 3 night trip in 2013, which means I was not physically present in the UK 5 years before the date on which I submitted the application...

It is a "with an abundance of caution"/belt and braces approach.

Re: Naturalisation - Evidence of lawful residence where PR was acquired in 2007

For naturalisation, you need to submit proof that a) You hold PR. b) You have resided in the UK for the past five years at least. However, PR is lost if you have lived outside the UK more than two years. Therefore, you should submit proof of your residence in the UK between 2007 and 2018. Thank you...

Naturalisation - Evidence of lawful residence where PR was acquired in 2007

I am a French national and I was issued a Permanent Residence card on 15 November 2017. The covering letter confirmed that I acquired Permanent Residence on 1 April 2007. I have therefore applied for Naturalisation online as I acquired PR status over 10 years ago. I have an appointment with the Docu...

I am a French citizen and obtained a permanent residence card over 12 months ago. I am now applying for naturalisation using the online form. In the documents section it says I need to provide: "Proof of living in the UK for xxx If you are an EEA National , you need to include letters from empl...

Re: PR: Do I need to give details outside 5 year period?

Thank you both. Unfortunately I no longer have access to my passport from the 1990s, so I can't check whether it had an ILR stamp. I will provide as much detail as possible for the entire period from 1998, in order to prove that I have not lost PR.

PR: Do I need to give details outside 5 year period?

I am a French national and have lived in the UK since 1998. I am now applying for a Permanent Residence card. I was employed full time between 2000 and 2006, and therefore satisfied the 5 year qualifying period during this time. Since 2006 I have been variously employed, a student, looking for work ...
