You do not need to renew OCI card every year. It's a life time card. Upto 2 yrs you can be outside the country.

What's the cons by the way? I thoughts advantages of British passport outweigh disadvantages.

I am in the same boat. Looks like we may not need any income proof, as was not required for transition from HSMP (under JR) to Tier1 (General) last time when we extended.
