Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

My dad has a paper driving licence and has never had a passport. As such, he literally has no forms of photographic ID. Nor does he have any desire to get one (don't even ask). Is there anyway around this? Also, even IF he could, what does it mean to be 'certified'?. My grandmother doesn't have a d...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

For info, I have now received my passport :D I used the normal service and it only took 4 weeks - that was 3 weeks earlier than the estimated date the tracking system gave, so I guess they are getting through the backlog there.

Re: FBR application but no original long form certificate

Yes, the one you get from GRO is an "original" in this context - they just mean no photocopies.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I had the copy of my ID certified by my witness at the same time as the form. I wrote something like "This is a true copy of the original" and she signed & dated it. The copies of my mother's and grandmother's ID were certified by the Post Office (I did not have the originals to show m...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I'm curious Ammonite - have you actually received your FBR now? When you received the email saying your certificate was ready, is that what it literally said? Other than being told that my application was being sent for approval, I haven't actually been told that my certificate is ready (and I subm...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

So I am now officially an Irish citizen, yay! :D My application was posted to London on 16 February, and the first thing I heard was at the end of June when I had an email from Dublin (so clearly I was in the batch sent over) requesting some extra documents. It took longer than I hoped to get hold o...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration - Documentation requirements

Yes you will need them. I had not included my grandmother's divorce certificate, and they wrote back asking for it.

Re: US citizen born to Irish parents but adopted at birth

Yes you are definitely still eligible. My mother was in the same situation (but born in the UK) and she got her Irish passport without any problem. She is fortunate though that she still has the original court documents for the adoption which has both her birth name and adoptive name on it, so it wa...

She was born and adopted (by English parents) in England, so I don't think it applies?

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I live here in London, so I submitted my application for FBR online on 10th Feb 2017 along with online payment and then handed in my supporting documents on 13th Feb 2017 in person at the Irish Embassy in London. At the time the lady on reception (Kathleen) said they are now quoting up to 12 months...

Re: Foreign Births Registration Question

I think the current identification requirement is an interesting one, fortunately my grandmother still had a passport but I did wonder what you could do if someone in your family tree didn't have either a passport or driving licence. This was the case with my grandmother - the embassy suggested I u...
