I know I could qualify as a worker/resident as I worked constinuously form 2001 to 2006 but it's so long ago it might be difficult to prove. Afterwards I worked both as self employed and employee and I know that the self employement can be a problem. It may be difficult, but it would be a lot easie...

Thank you very much for your answer. He still has Italian citizenship though (dual) so he is still an EEA qualified person.
