Read through this thread here

Short answer: can't apply from Ireland. The Irish DoJ have screwed us over on that point, too.

Thanks for the thoughts, anyway, rafo.

I'm just back from the GNIB. They said no, of course. But at least they told me no right at the window. They didn't make me take a number and wait two hours to be told no.

Useless.

I've just gone into the Immigrant Council today to ask for news on the EU1 fiasco. They were very informative, and seemed to understand and share my absolute frustration with this particular issue. One thing I was told is that a lot of these court cases have been settled out of court. The only ones ...

I e-mailed the British Embassy here in Dublin about applying for an EEAFP or spouse visa without the necessary Irish residency stamp in my passport. This is their reply: For both visas you would need to a valid status in your passport, however because you do not have this you will need to get a lett...

the conclusion is that she is not entitled to apply for a visa from Ireland as she has no valid stamp in her passport. The letter from the Department of Justice stating the case in the High Court made no difference. Oh, talk to. Really? I was planning to do this. I just *knew* that the Irish refusi...

I called the DETE months ago about this. From what the guy said, this work permit for those waiting on an EU1 is merely a formality: 1. There is NO FEE. Do not let them convince you to pay anything, for either you or the employer. 2. There is NO MARKET TEST. There is no need for the employer to prov...

Well, I, for one, agree with much of what walrusgrumble says. I mean, we all know this sort of stuff is true of Ireland and its public services: the major problem lies in the understaffed, bad facilites and structure. look how long for instance it took the refugee act 1996 to come into effect (2000)...

I'm not sure about this, but I think Ireland doesn't recognize civil partnerships. I think Ireland's one of the few countries where it's marriage or nothing. So I don't know how you'd get a partnership certificate here.

I provided proof of residing in the UK by means of bills, letters and a rental contract. For the Surinder Singh cases in the UK, the general recommendation is to prove that you've lived in another EU country, with the EU citizen "exercising his/her treaty rights", for at least six months....

That job ad looks like it is for Deloitte, not the Irish government, unfortunately. Oh, well. You'd be working on immigration cases and such for their employees, is my guess. Even if it was for the Irish government, I know a few people who work for it, and they hate it. They say it is totally demora...

It is part of the European wide Directive 2004/38/EC. And is now in Irish law. Yeah, and the Irish have been absolutely scrupulous in their interpretation of that specific EU directive. If that worked, that would be awesome. If I were just applying with an EU1 now, I'd try it. There's nothing to lo...

I have to say I'm skeptical of this "living" in Northern Ireland or the rest of the UK for a few days, and claiming this as "residency" on the EU form. Now, I now that's what the UK law says: residency is simply lawfully staying in the country, but we all know the Irish do not ha...

Hi. I've written a letter, but it's too long, especially for the Irish Times. Any help trimming it down? Dear Sir/Madam: During this election time, I’d like to draw your attention to a group of people who can’t vote, but are trying desperately to gain legal residence and recognition from the Iri...

Given that SOLVIT keep saying that not having the residency card in no way prevents the non-EU spouse from working, and that living with your spouse and working in the host EU country is a right, what do you think will happen if we just look for jobs and start working? As you are Irish and wishing to live in Ireland, the EU1 isn't for you. It's for non-EU spouses of non-Irish EU citizens who wish to settle in Ireland. I think it may be time to get together and see what can be done. Maybe we can make a plea, en masse, to a group like the Immigrant Council to do something on our behalf. Although technically it is possible, it's vaguely illegal, as you're not supposed to look for a job while on a tourist visa. Which is not to say people don't do it. If you do find a job, however, you'd need a work visa. Your employer applies for one for you. To get a work visa, your employer has to ...
