Certified Documents

As a reminder, people should always copy their passport and the visas within them should you lose them, then it helps the authorities by giving them something to go on as a basis to replace the passport and visas. You may want to get certified documents in advance as an added safeguard. You can do ...

johnj60, that was pretty fast. My children were just approved for discretionary registration and like you it was around four weeks. Why some applications completely defy the wait times posted by the Home Office amazes me. I know that some attribute a fast turn around by using NCS but we both went th...

Only one of the refrees needs to provide a British Passport number and the other referee may be of any nationality. It does sound odd but thats what the policy guidelines state.

Childs Registration 26 Day Success

I just received my childrens Certicate of Registration, exactly 26 days after mailing in the applications (did not use NCS) to the Home Office. I want to thank everyone on these boards, as the wealth of topics and comments has been an education. That education was used in putting my childrens applic...

Countersignatory Childs Passport

Moved the family to the UK late last year and just had my young children registered as British Citizens. Now want to get them British Passports but have a slight problem on the countersignatry requirement requiring a UK resident, with current British Passport, known you for two years and a professio...

I am a s 4(c) British Citizen and that is the section of the Nationality Act that you are applying for so I can give you some insight as someone who did it. You indicated that you plan to have children in the future, possibly outside the UK. A s 4(c) British Citizen is considered to be a British Cit...

Identity Cards (Contra Viewpoint)

I brought my family to the UK from the US and was rather happy that my wife who has ILE would be able to get some type of ID card so she would not need to carry around her passport. A US Passport with many years still left on it before expiring and UK ILE entry clearance, is a very expensive package...

JAJ, do you have any theories as to why one MN1 application appears to race to the front of the pile to get approved while others follow the average timelines? At this point in time, assuming two otherwise similiar applications, is it the luck of landing in the right pile with the caseworker who wan...

I am going to respectfully "disagree" with SYH. In my own experience with the BIA, I always go back to the actual caseworking instructions that are available for download at the BIA website. Everything else, I will toss as rubish. In fact, the guides themselves given to the public at large...

Having lived in the USA most of my life as a dual national, I have to say that the systems in place here in the United Kingdom are superior than that in America. Other than anyone can overstay in the USA, make up a false employment number, get a job with wink wink nod, and worry little about ever ge...

Planning Opportunities

This final bill is going to be a mish mosh in its final form. Now I am wondering if the three year residency requirement for spouses will remain in final law? Surely it will not be needed, with all these stages. If not, it may open a planning opportunity for a very narrow number of people who alread...

ILR will remain

Look at Page 20. In "Stage Three," what a horrible name, they use the term Indefinite leave to remain, as the term defining permanent residence.

Betting guess, is that term remains!!

I just finished reading the document looking as to how it would affect my family. Here is my take on it based on my families particulars. Registration of Child (MN1) Timeline?

I am submitting Form MN1 for my child, under age 10. It is a straightforward application under s 3 (1). I am a British Citizen under s 4 (c), who has brought his family back to the UK. My children are not eligible under any other section, they were born before I was registered. The website lists pro...

If you are in the United States, you can get a certified copy of your Registration or Naturalization Certificate made at one of the Consulates. You need an appointment and it is about $70.00 (US). You can then send that to the British Embassy in Washington where they issue British passports. That ma...

As far as I understand the expiry date is normally the same as the passport. However if some time has passed since issue, Immigration may question you on arrival as to whether the relationship is still subsisting. Once first entry is made, the normal rules for keeping ILR apply. The question is now...
