Re: EU Resident EC

Thanks a lot. The link is extremely helpful. My long-term plan is to retire to Ireland but I cannot qualify currently under the rules nor do I have a job offer there. The Blue Card path through Germany would be a temporary situation so reading that one could get an indefinite unlimited visa after on...

Re: EU Resident EC recognized by Ireland?

I would get the EC card by living in an EU country for five years and meeting the other requirements as proscribed by each country. Not sure I understand what you mean.

Re: EU Resident EC

Thanks. What is the name of the indefinite resident permit you mention that grants indefinite rights to live and work in Germany with a blue Card after 21 months (assuming language level)? If I receive this indefinite visa from Germany, I have unlimited (as long as I reside in Germany for at least 6...

EU Resident EC recognized by Ireland?

Does anyone know whether an EU Resident EC visa - Permanent residency in the EU - known variously by these countries as: Residente de larga duración – UE - Spain Carte de résident de longue durée – Communauté Européenne - France Residente CE de longa duração - Portugal Erlaubnis zum Daueraufenthalt-...

Re: EU Resident EC

Thanks. So if you are settled after 21 months, do you now have the permanent right to live and work in Germany? What about travel throughout the EU?

Re: EU Resident EC

Not 5 years but only 21 months to permanent residency with full freedom of movement throughout the EU if you get a Blue Card? To be clear, you are talking about a Erlaubnis zum Daueraufenthalt-EU?

EU Resident EC

Re: Irish Citizenship through Irish Descent / Assosciations

Apologies but do you even have a good reason to request citizenship? I suspect this category is most often used as an honorific for people of Irish heritage who have made significant contributions to Irish culture world-wide like the late Pres. John F. Kennedy. Also helps to be politically connected...

max307, you are helping me make my point. None of the links you shared provide any detail about the deal for US retirees. Who is negotiating on their behalf? Its all for show and retirees will get thrown under the bus.

E3 Visas vs. US Retirees

Anyone have any inside information of the negotiations to lower the requirements for US retirees to Ireland in exchange for Irish access to the US E3 visa scheme? The Irish press has reported that a deal was struck earlier this year but I have not read any reports, official or otherwise, of the deta...

PasadenaTom, yes I think the question has not been answered but maybe there is no answer other than Irish immigration authorities have discretion that Schengen authorities may not.

Re: American buying and using a holiday home in Ireland

Not 90 days once a year. 90 days every 180 days so 180 days total for each year. Otherwise, no point to buy a holiday home.

Re: American buying and using a holiday home in Ireland

littlerr, with respect, the Stamp 0 process is far from easy and I believe requires more than a simple letter. It requires proof of health insurance, income of at least €50,000 per person and liquid assets of at least €150,000. And I do not want to spend a year in Ireland, only 3 months per visit as...

Re: Is 90/180 Schenghen rule hard and fast?

Yes, secret.simon, that is precisely my point. Each member state has their own immigration concerns and therefore discretion in enforcing their own immigration policies and the 90/180 rule does not address the difference between a "defacto resident" and a "genuine visitor".

Re: American buying and using a holiday home in Ireland

I know that Americans can purchase houses in Ireland without restrictions. I also know that Americans are entitled to stay in Ireland for 90 days. This appears pretty straight forward but I still have the following questions: 1. If I buy a holiday home in Ireland, can I freely travel to Ireland and...

Re: Is 90/180 Schenghen rule hard and fast?

Thanks Caravel but I am still concerned about it. I wonder what guidelines EU immigration uses at the borders. Seems that frequent travel in and out for the max period of time would be a red flag to a diligent immigration officer. Legal and legitimate can be interpreted a number of ways is suspicion...

Re: Long-Term Residence (EU) - Moving to Germany

I feel pretty certain that the purpose of the Long-term Residence (EU) is designed to grant non-EU citizens the same rights as EU citizens to live and work in the EU so no work permits, blue cards, or job offered should be required. The only requirement may be to register in whatever country you mov...

Re: Long-Term Residence (EU) - Moving to Germany

I am also interested in this type of resident permit but I have as yet not obtained a long-term permit in any EU Member State. But from what I have read, Member States have the right to establish quotas if deemed necessary and that the UK, Ireland and Denmark are specifically excluded from the progr...

Is 90/180 Schenghen rule hard and fast?

Under Schengen rules, non-EU passport holders may only stay in the EU for 90 out of the past 180 days. Is this a hard and fast rule? Or can an EU member stop a traveler from entering if they suspect the person is coming for purposes of immigration e.g. owning a home, entering the EU too frequently, ...

Re: Europe settlement

Yes Blue Card is EU-wide. Just saying the vast vast majority of them are issued in Germany for some reason. e.g. over 12,000 for Germany vs. 600 in France.

Thanks a lot for your help.
