Saarang, I would suggest you don't leave it to the caseworker to work out the days away, but rather you fill in this detail yourself. When I prepared my spreadsheet, I had two columns - one for Work days away, another for personal holidays away. And I showed the grand total (i.e. work + holidays awa...

Safest would be to get your passport from within the UK, then travel outside. There are extra requirements for your first passport, which may be harder to meet if applying from abroad.

Had a fairly smooth NCS interview today. The lady was very courteous and helpful. Based on suggestions I had read on this forum, I had entered my HSMP number in the Home Office reference no. section (the very first entry). She deleted it, and left it blank - she told me only ILR reference no. (if it...

Spartac, thanks very much for your useful (and prompt!) responses. Just have one final question: Should one staple together the pages of the application form? I downloaded the form and printed it, but haven't as yet stapled the pages. I have my interview tomorrow, so would appreciate an early reply ...

Spartac, thanks for the info. Considering you went thru NCS recently, can I ask you couple of additional questions: 1. Should the photograph be stapled to the application form (referee page)? I have attached it using a paper clip. 2. How accurate should one be regarding addresses for the past 5 year...

Calculation of days away for naturalisation

Hello all, I have my NCS interview coming up this Saturday... What is the official directive on how days away from the UK are to be calculated, i.e. are weekends/holidays to be included, or can we exclude in the calculation? When I applied for my ILR, I excluded weekends/holidays, and that was accep...

And how would the government pay for them? From taxes, yes? How's that different from people paying for them directly?

Can you also point me to the relevant forms and guide to what documentation needs to be included with the application.

I would like to get prepared well in advance.

Citizenship and marriage

I am currently on ILR and eligible for citizenship early next year. My question is this: I am planning to get married over the next 2-3 months. Is it faster to bring my wife here on my current ILR status or should I wait until my citizenship comes thru before I get her application processed? And how...

bobo77 - I assume you took the quote from here? http://www.lawfirmuk.net/naturalization_e.html All that's being stated is that one needs to have an intention to live in the UK when applying for naturalisation; however, once you have become a full-fledged British citizen, you are equal to any other c...

John, thanks for making the changes. Things look a bit less cluttered now. I do have one comment. Can I suggest you move General UK Immigration forum to the bottom of United Kingdom - non-Tier section. And put some wording to the effect "don't post job search, family related, ILR or British cit...

I had made a request to locate the newly created 'British Citizenship' adjacent to this forum: http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?p=303785#303785 Given that ILR and naturalisation are closer in terms of timelines on the immigration journey, I feel it is more appropriate the two topics ar...

John, let me explain the reason for my suggestion: 1. You will notice the 'General UK Immigration forum' is now the de-facto place for ILR related queries 2. Because 'British Citizenship' currently sits right at the bottom, it can get missed and people may continue posting citizenship related querie...

Move 'British Citizenship' to top of United Kingdom forum

Hello Admins, Under United Kingdom forum, the newly created British Citizenhip sub-forum has been placed right at the bottom. As a result, we have several posts related to British Citizenship still going into the General UK Immigration forum sub-forum. Can you please move the British Citizenship sub...

I called BIA today. The lady who answered the phone told me it is ok for a qualified medical doctor to act as a referee of professional standing.

I then told her their website has inconsistent info and perhaps they should rectify it - and her answer was 'uh, uh'.

Oh well.

Oh no, I asked this precisely because I know two doctors quite well, who have known me for several years. It's just that I wanted to make sure I didn't have to start looking for someone else to act as referees. I find it quite striking that the BIA website provides inconsistent information on a key ...

Filipinas - thanks for your response.

I checked my most recent P60, and the HM Revenue & Customs Office name is shown as Northwest Metropolitan Area. No address is provided.
There is also an Employer PAYE reference given in the P60 - do you know if this is the same as Tax office reference?
