EU/EEA citizens do not need to take the Life in the UK test because, under European regulations, they obtain permanent residency automatically (or, cannot be required, under the regulation, to take/pass or pay for any tests or applications). Unfortunately this does mean that someone with little or ...

Being part of EU shouldn't mean that you don't have any restrictions at all on who can come in. Recently I took the Life in the UK test, and somewhere in the prep book it says EU citizens can work elsewhere in the EU 'subject to certain conditions'. Are these conditions just things like no criminal ...

Doesn't mention HO. An alcoholic waster has been helped to return voluntarily to Poland. Sounds like a good idea. Looks like you missed the point I was making. I am talking about the policy of allowing all and sundry from EU to come into the UK (without any checks for skills, language fluency, etc....

Homeless immigrants flown home

And H.O. keeps putting more obstacles for highly skilled immigrants from outside the EU?
Great policy indeed!

You don't even need to take your passport to the test. Driving Licence would meet their requirement for proof of identity. So the question of putting a note on passport doesn't arise at all. Raj, you can find details about the test here: http://www.lifeintheuktest.gov.uk/htmlsite/index.html My advic...

IELTS and Life in the UK are different tests.
Life in the UK is a requirement for ILR and UK citizenship.

I cannot believe someone would be happy living on £30000 year ... I know several people here in London who live on salaries in this range, and as far as I can see they look in good health and happy. Eating out at fancy restaurants doesn't necessarily mean good nutrition. (In fact, some would argue...

As I see it, the problem in the UK seems to be this bias towards allowing EU citizens free access to the country, while qualified people from other parts of the world have to jump so many hurdles to stay here. While the govt insists on very high skills etc for non-EU citizens, EU citizens with minim...

With the HO changing the rules every other day, it's 'safer' to get your British citizenship soonest. Who knows what new roadblocks they may come up with on the road to Pom-dom.

That is, if it matters to you.

Requiring people to have Master's degree is a bit silly.
The correlation between a master's degree and getting a well-paid job is a bit weak.

Hmm, not based on this: http://www.mulberryfinch.com/same-day-service/ On second thoughts, maybe you are right... The SET(O) guide says this: We offer a premium service to people who apply in person at our public enquiry offices (PEOs). The premium rate of £950 has to be paid for this service, whi...

The increased fees are a bit steep; however, the additional fee of £50 for dependants etc. is only fair. Why should a single applicant pay the same fee as somone who has a spouse and, say, 10 kids?

Re: ILR 225 DAYS

Just want to clarify about 225 days, 1) Is it including or excluding weekends and bank holidays. 2) Is it including or excluding the stamp on visa (ex: i left uk on 11/02/09 but the stamp on passport says 12/02/09 due arrival country). Please read this: http://immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?p=...

How to do a Subject Access Request

There's mention of Subject Access Request in various places on this forum. Can someone explain clearly the steps involved in doing one?

Also, can this be made a Sticky thread?

Many thanks.

lapen123, thanks for clarifying that. One more question: do you know if the 90 days is counted including weekends/holidays, or do they exclude them in calculating the 90 days? I read elsewhere on this forum that holidays/weekends are not counted towards determining days outside the UK. I dont know ...
