I moved to the UK in 2013 using my EU passport and received my EU settled status more than 12 months ago, so I am now looking to apply for British citizenship. I also have an Australian passport which I use for voting, etc while in the UK....

Re: UK Naturalisation timing

So say I apply then in March 2020 and then go back home, as long as I am reachable it should be okay? Can I take the oath ceremony abroad or I must be in the UK? It needs to be in the UK. There are only very specific circumstances that allow a person to have the ceremony abroad and it is usually on...

Re: UK Naturalisation timing

March 2019 was 6 months ago. You are free to leave the country to travel. Feedback can take anywhere from 1 month to 6 months or more. In case you HO requires more documents they will get in touch with you In case you get approval.. you’ll have 3 months to take oath ceremony. If you don’t you’ll ha...

HI there – just asking for some advice about timing and sequence to apply for naturalisation. I was granted ILR (settled status) in March 2018 (all I have is the pdf confirmation) and I am planning to apply for naturalisation in March 2019 (12 months later) but I would also like to go back home for ...

Re: Voting in the UK GE

If you are legally resident (the residency requirement excludes visitors) in the UK on any route (whether UK Immigration or EEA Regulations) AND are a Commonwealth citizen, you can vote in a General Election in the UK, provided of course, that you are registered to vote . Thank you - I thought that...

You are free to vote if you are a commonwealth citizen and legally resident in the UK.

Re: Citizenship, Settled Status, need some ideas!

Settled status is not backdated and you have to have this for at least 12 months before applying. You can apply for ILR (it is called actually PR for EU citizens), but you have to have this for 12 months before applying for naturalisation. You cannot be absent from UK for more than 90 days in the l...

Citizenship, Settled Status, need some ideas!

Hi there - need some ideas about what to do next... I moved to the UK (with an EU passport) in Feb 2014 I got Settled Status in March 2019 though I am thinking that it might be easier to apply for citizenship (I can have multiple) so that I don't have to worry about leaving and returning the country...

UK residency EU passport holder

hi there, hopefully I am posting the thread in the right index; I am trying to understand a bit better rules about permanent residency in the UK and what options might available to secure it. I got a job transfer with my current employer and arrived in the UK in Jan 15, 2014 (physically landed) thou...
