..last time i flew from dublin to london. the check in desk people insisted that i need a visa to go to london. it depends on whos doing the check in for you. If, under UK immigration laws you require a visa to enter the UK, the check-in desk staff was correct in insisting you have a visa. Theoreti...

As far as I understand, it is possible to have dual Singapore/other citizenship as a child. But herein lies the problem. Once you register your child as Singaporean then he is stuck with it. He can't renounce or lose it until he does his National Service. If he wants to keep his British and Irish c...

I think archigabe hit the nail on the head there with most of mine. But to add: Likes: No council tax, No water rates, Generally friendly and genuine people, The Garda Síochána station - the unique one stop shop for most things, The community spirit, The ease of traveling to the North in order to ...

Are you sure that under current laws the child would be entitled to Irish citizenship? His parents only moved to Ireland in 11/2005 (under 2 years ago). Since 2005, children born in Ireland are only entitled to Irish citizenship if they are the children of Irish citizens, or their parents have been...

I'm British, spouse Singaporean. Both countries allow citizenship by decent, to one generation. Steps have already been taking by us to register Singapore citizenship for our son at Singapore's London Embassy (unfortunately there is no Singapore mission in Ireland). And JAJ is correct, our baby wou...

What is your nationality and what nationality is your wife? You may be making incorrect assumptions about nationality for your child. I'm British, spouse Singaporean. Both countries allow citizenship by decent, to one generation. Steps have already been taking by us to register Singapore citizenshi...

..I won't have much to prove that I in fact left Ireland before my WHV expired, will I? I was never stopped or had anything stamped between Dublin and London Heathrow. Correct. UK / Dublin airports do not monitor people leaving the country, which is good for overstayers as they could, theoretically...

Baby on the way..

I've been lurking for some time now, posting here and there. Thought it was time to introduce myself, together with a quick question. I'm an EEA citizen, my wife is non-EEA (though non-visa required). We arrived in Ireland on 30th November 2005, from our previous residence in a non-EEA country, into...

Re: Irish EU1 vs. UK EEA1 - The way it should be done...

..All in all they managed to do in 2 months what Ireland was unable to do within 11 months. That's how it should be in all EU countries.. dsab85 - my sentiments exactly. I could write an essay - nay, a book - about how much I despise the (dis)organisation of the Irish immigration system, but that's...

You will need to take a deep breath... We appealed at the end of March 2007, and had no response at all until July 2007, when we left Ireland. I am sure if we would have stayed we would still not have had a response by now. We also sent 2 reminders, which wnet unnoticed. We also sent a lette...

I sympathise with you umalig. I believe that your son not being recognised as an Irish citizen is unlawful, though I am not an expert. I see nowhere in the legislation posted in the link above, nor anywhere else on the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service website, that periods spent in Irela...

Unfortunately your situation is the same as many. You are very likely to be refused residency (stamp 4) on the grounds that you have not previously lived in another EU country with your spouse. You may wish to consider applying for a UK EEA Family Permit and move to Northern Ireland for six months t...

I think it's high time all of us who have been shafted by this exploitative rule went on the offensive against the authorities! My wife has been sitting around almost a year only to be told to f@*k off after wasting all this time. It has been an extremely difficult and expensive time for us living ...

Your wife is an "LTH girl". Does this mean Lithuanian? If so, then according to European law, you have the right of residence in Ireland providing your wife is working here or is self-sufficient. Getting the Irish Department of Justice (DoJ) to recognise this right is another matter. Unles...

what happens if we have a baby? can we get married in ireland? Maybe the Chen ruling can help your wife if she is the parent of a E.U citizen child... Only if the OP intends to reside in the UK (including Northern Ireland). If the OP were to have a child, the child would be an Irish citizen (assumi...

The is no border control upon arrival in the UK from ROI. Fly from any airport in ROI and you can enter the UK without any immigration checks. Theoretically, to enter the UK without a valid visa is illegal. In practice, however, there is nobody to check you. My wife, who is non-EEA, and I flew from ...
