Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Today, I received this notification from the embassy: I am happy to tell you that your application for a Foreign Birth Registration has been approved. You are now an Irish citizen. I will be in contact with you in the coming weeks regarding your FBR certificate. Timeline: Online application submitte...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Emlyn, I submitted my application by hand, but in Beijing not London. That's the only way you can do it in China. I had to contact the embassy and make an appointment to see a consular official. The documents were then checked in front of me and ticked off on a list. That was a reassuring aspect - a...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

David An expired photo ID will not suffice. You will need to get some form of current, officially issued photo ID for your mother. Either she will have to apply for a new passport or state issued identity card to be issued or an alternative form of photo ID could be used. What choices are available ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Forestier I am sorry to hear of your troubles. My advice would be, before you go and hire a genealogist (which is likely to set you back quite a bit) make absolutely sure that you have used the online databases available to their fullest extent. What I mean by this is that, when I was searching for ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

What the DFA should do is offer a Fast-Track solution for FBR. People who are particularly antsy or have an urgent need for citizenship could follow that route. I think they could easily triple the price if they promised to get it done inside a month.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Hi All Thanks to everyone for posting updates on their status - it's been very helpful. I'm an Australian citizen and this is my timeline so far. I'm keen to know what is the best way to get an update on my status? I can't seem to find a phone number and they have not replied as yet to a follow up ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I have an application number in the 7300's - so about 500 ahead of Upliam or Michael123's cousin. I'm not sure the application number is meaningful in determining the time-frame for approval. Other factors probably weigh more heavily. It is worth mentioning that people can apply and pay online (gett...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

I will provide a quick timeline of my experience thus far with the FBR process. Applied in Beijing on August 14th 2018. I had to actually physically go there and submit all the documents in person. No direct to Dublin or postal application to London embassy for us folks in China. Strictly old school...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration?

Hi THB Yes, They do retain the documents you supply for the entire period of the FBR process. You will only get them back at the very end with your FBR certificate. If being without these documents makes you uneasy, then simply order more certified copies from the GRO or official records office in y...
