First passport application - query about when to apply

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's a requirement to apply for your first UK passport straight away upon having your citizenship ceremony? Is there a deadline at all?

Thanks,

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

An update for the long haulers: - still no luck with the HO support channels (emails, phone helpline, complaints), - I received a response from my MP. The HO told them my letter was sent back in August. I reached out to my MP significantly later than the paperwork was supposedly sent, so it's obvio...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

I got my approval letter via email in June and I still am waiting on an invitation for a ceremony... Have contact HO a number of times and they don't respond, neither do Hackney Council. I had no luck with that either. I've done some research on what people in our situation could do: 1. If you call...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

Update: Approval letter via email in mid-June 2020. Still no ceremony invitation letter. No response from council. No response from MP. No response from HM citizenship email addresses. and yeah yeah, COVID... but it's been around since March now. Plenty of time for the Government to implement a virt...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

Does anyone know which councils in London are doing virtual ceremonies at the moment? I am registered with Hackney but they are adamant that they will not be offering virtual ceremonies, which I think is quite disgusting in light of a second wave of COVID. I want to change to a more forward thinkin...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

Just to say that I got an approval via email on mid-June and I haven't received an invitation letter either. I'm registered to attend a ceremony at Hackney Council. This is kind of insane.... I feel so sorry for the people working at the Home Office, it must be a total shambles behind the scenes und...

Hi all,

Called my council Hammersmith and Fulham they said they haven't received any certificate since March.
To me it looks like January 2021
Why are you saying January 2021? Is this based on fact, or?

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

Thank you :). I wish I could celebrate...I'll only allow myself to celebrate once I've got the UK passport in my own hands!!

Citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk

Keep in mind, I emailed them like a month ago about the change in address, so don't expect a quick response!

Good luck!

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

Hi guys. Just to let you know that I had to contact the home office about a change of address, which they confirmed. They also confirmed that my certificate hadn’t yet been printed or my invitation letter but this would happen in the next few weeks.

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

A friend of mine had her citizenship approved back in February. She had her citizenship ceremony scheduled for back in March, and then that was cancelled. And then her council rung her and booked in 1 July, and now that has been cancelled with no further date offered. My hairdresser rang me today. S...

Apply for passport outside UK after ceremony

Hi all, I'm still waiting for my ceremony letter, and when it arrives I'm planning to try and get the quickest ceremony possible as I've got a sick relative in Australia and I need to go home for a few months. Does anyone know if it's possible to apply for your first UK adult passport outside of the...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

You cannot attend a citizenship ceremony without an invitation letter from your council. The home office mails out a certificate to your council once your application has been approved, who will then send you an invitation letter to attend the ceremony. In some instances, yes the council may have yo...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

If anyone is registered with Hackney council for the citizenship ceremony, you can join their waiting list once your application has been approved. You do not need to wait for your invitation letter. You will however need to provide your Home Office/Case ID number to join the list. I received this a...

Re: General discussion on naturalization applications

Hi all,

For anyone who has received confirmation (approval) via email, can I ask what the subject line of the email was? I'm a bit concerned that mine may have gone into junk or spam... Did you have this experience at all?

Thanks,

Indefinite Leave to Remain / Extended Ancestry

Hi there, I originally came to the UK in 2011 on a 5-year UK Ancestry visa. Before it expired, I applied to extend the UK Ancestry visa which was approved for a further 5 years (due to expire in 2021). I have been living in the UK consecutively for the past seven and a bit years. I have not spent mo...
