I was fortunate enough to have family in both London and Denmark, so I ended up using the Danish address there. I'm not sure what you should do if this isn't feasible. My other option was to return to New Zealand and wait it out there, adding significantly to the waiting time, not to mention being e...

You might want to attach evidence you've left just in case you happen to be asked for it in order to save time. I honestly cannot say whether you will be asked as I got two different stories out of them, so I decided to take the safer route and just give them this proof. I had my application complet...

The best and easiest thing for you to do is just to leave the country on expiry of your working holiday visa and make sure your application is submitted after the date of expiry. I got a big run around as to what I had to do (two departments suggested it was fine to stay and apply, but the GNIB insi...

I've found the following on citizensinformation.ie regarding long term residency after 2 years on a green card permit - http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/migrant-workers/employment-permits/green_card_permits/?searchterm=green%20card. However, as far as I'm aware, this is not la...

You would normally have to stay with your initial sponsoring employer for the first year of the green card. However, in what they describe as exceptional circumstances (I guess redundancy would be one?) they will allow you to find a new employer and get a new permit before the first year is up. Plea...

You can renew the green card indefinitely after 2 years, and will be able to apply for the status of Long Term Resident, which I believe should give you unrestricted labour market access and a lot of the rights an irish citizen would have. The big question with this one is processing time, they aren...

There isn't another type of permit for those entering on the basis of taking up employment. There used to be in the past for certain occupations, but this has now ceased. So you have to stay with the one employer for one year, and it's €1000 each time you need a new permit. Either yourself or your...

If everything is in order, it should take around 2-3 weeks. I had to supply additional documents (these weren't actually asked for in the application) and mine took 5 weeks in total. It took another week for my green card to show up in Denmark, where I was living at the time. I think they say allow ...

I found this which suggests they may - http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/WP07000278 but it doesn't give work rights or anything like that and requires you to prove you've been in a relationship for 4 years too!!

With working holiday visas, they require you to leave the country, and if you have a sponsor, to apply for a work permit/green card from overseas (after being told a load of rubbish from the various departments, I left and got a green card from overseas). It's something that is signed when the visa ...

Hi,

What type of working visa do you hold? Is it a working holiday visa? or is it something else? What nationality is your partner?

It was the same employer who reapplied once she'd left the country. This was approved. Seemingly in most circumstances they just want people to exit the country (I did this, and entered another EU country as a tourist - no issue there) and apply. Just red tape really - it's all gone really smoothly ...

Seemingly both, as my friend who got refused for this applied for a green card. It's only come in a couple of years ago (I think) and even some staff members at DETE are unaware of the change (hence why my friend applied in the first place). I managed to convert from a working holiday visa, but got ...

Hey, they actually are now. My friend is not visa required (American) and was refused on the basis of holding a tourist stamp. This never used to be the case, as non-visa required nationals are able to change their status within the country, but the rules have now changed as it is the department's v...

Hey, I was wondering why my green card had not been processed (as the dates on the website said it should have been), but was told those dates were, in fact, wrong, due to a software error, so they were a little behind. Now I think they may have fixed it (but I'm not certain) as I have a friend who ...

Hi there, I've heard of people doing it both ways, either by phone, or coming to the country and looking (all non-visa required nationals). I'm not sure what happens in the case of visa required nationals, should this apply to you. I've not long been granted a green card, and I would strongly sugges...

Apply for a New Zealand citizen family relationship visa (see http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/461/index.htm). I'm not exactly sure as to the process you have to follow, but I'm certain you'll get a prompt response by contacting the Australian High Commission (www.australia.org.nz) regarding t...

Just a word of caution too with the job titles. I know of a person who has run into difficulties with this. This person was effectively a computer programmer, but had a different job title (it was some variation of this title, I cannot remember what the exact title was). This person was declined as ...

Hi there, some guidance, from my experience. If you get a salary offer over €60K, then you use the green card permit route. If its between €30K and €60K, and you match an occupation for which there is a demonstrated shortage (for example, a computer programmer), then you can also use the green...

This probably would be around a month and a half ago. It's hard to tell really - I went on a wednesday morning. Just isn't particularly nice to be waiting outside at those times.

I showed up around 7am and waited outside. This is perhaps a little early, as the office opens at 8am. I was out by 8.30am. Quite often they appear to "close" the offices pretty early in the day as they only give out a certain number of tickets. I've heard of people who have shown up a bit...

Hi, There is a visa for family members of New Zealand citizens who hold, or will hold on entrance to Australia, a special category visa. I've not applied for this visa myself as of yet, so I cannot tell you the exact process to follow. It is issued for 5 years and allows the holder to work and live ...

Switching from a Working Holiday Visa to other permits

I'm currently in Ireland trying to navigate the immigration system here. It's not easy. I'm now considering moving to Australia. As a New Zealander, living in Australia isn't a problem, but I have an irish boyfriend. Does anyone know how difficult it is to transfer from a working holiday visa to oth...

It took three months for my employer to apply for mine the first time. I think it's supposed to be eight weeks. Good luck with it.
