Local Elections "Foreigner" comment

Just back from my usual saturday shopping in the town I live in. Today the Fianna Fail candidates were out campaigning (I'm registered to vote BTW) and was wondering why they were only interested in trying to get my other half's vote (he's Irish). Walked up the other side of the street only to have ...

Yeah, loved that comment! All I thought was why do they think they are qualified to do some of the jobs that migrant workers do. I've been exposed to these sorts of comments (I'm from New Zealand and we welcome plenty of Irish each year). Agree with the comment that they might as well stamp "GO...

I watched this last night. I didn't realise how far reaching the changes to work permit arrangements were.

Felt really sorry for that guy running in the local elections getting abuse on the door steps for his colour/background. It must be quite disheartening.

http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=31 details the opening hours I'd personally start queuing outside between 7am and 7.30am as, in my experience, you tend to get out quite quickly. I've recently heard of someone having to wait for 10 hours for going in a bit later and getting one of the last t...

From memory, the ryan air visa check desk was in row 7, end closest to security. I missed it but was directed there. It does have 'Visa Check' but you could easily miss it.

I think my problem was that the person just didn't know and hadn't been provided with the schengen visa regulations. Pretty poor for a check in desk. Incidentally this has been the first time I've been asked in my 3 years in the EU. Main point though of this post was the number of people being turne...

If you forget the stamp, but still have your printed out ryan air boarding pass, they'll seemingly let you through at security. These people were being turned around when the plane was boarding, so there wasn't a hope they'd be able to make the flight after returning to check in. Maybe after a littl...

Ryanair Visa Check, Dublin Airport

It's now possible for non-EEA national to check in online with ryanair. Unfortunately you still need to queue to get a stamp to say you have been through a 'visa check'. I saw three people turned away from my flight because they hadn't done this (they show no mercy). A word of warning - while I don'...

I have had the same pleasant experience at the Wicklow garda station (although the first time I went there, he was a bit grumpy because he'd lost most of his pay somehow because of his wife). So much nicer going in there than Burgh quay! Open in the evenings too. Really knows what he is talking abou...

They've removed occupations from the shortage list for green cards (€30K-€60K) before, so they've this is a mechanism to force some to apply for work permits instead and hence requiring a labour market test. From the experience of others I know, they do look closely at the skills/qualifications ...

Yeah, from the sounds of it they want to basically boot some of these people out who came to the country in good faith. I think the ones they are 'targeting' would have been here several years by now. I sort of get the feeling, though, that a lot of Irish people don't know the first thing about thei...

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder what they'll classify as being 'low-skilled'. When I went through the process, in 2007, it wasn't exactly easy to be granted an employment permit (I know of a person with a masters degree in comp sci who was initially turned down for a permit!). I wonder if they are talki...

Even I heard from my immigration officer (garda station, outside Dublin) that holders Stamp 4 EUFam would be allowed to go through the EU queue (but Irish-citizen spouses have to go through the non-EU queue and be stamped in). So that's terrible behaviour. Although in my dealings with the government...

Yeah, I was offered less than €60K per year but had a job offer as a computer programmer so I could still get a green card. No labour market test was required. At the time the green card was applied for I had 3 years experience. It took 6 weeks from receipt in DETE in Dublin (hand delivered by employer) to receiving my green card in the post in Denmark.
I'm a New Zealander.

That's correct, no labour market test is required for the green card. I can't say for sure what sort of qualification is accepted for an IT professional. I'm one here on a green card, and I hold a Bachelor of Commerce (honours) in Information Systems. I'm working as a software engineer. You do need ...

Stamp 4 After 2 years on green card

Looks like it might be good news for some (saving €1500/stamp 4) when renewing their green card. Seemingly is to do with the immigration bill not being law in time to cover someone who may have been on a green card for 2 years.

Hi esharknz, If you've been here for more than a year, under any immigration status, even tourist, you are no longer legally allowed to drive on a NZ licence in Ireland. Since it is "not recognised" you would be "unlicenced" (in their eyes) after 1 year. So conditions of the iri...
