I wonder if the student work permit will have the opposite effect to that intended (i.e. trying to crack down on students working illegally by imposing more paperwork on them, but the opposite happens because of the paperwork and conditions). It will be interesting to see what conditions they'll put...

I believe they are reviewing every single EU1 application made after the prior residency condition came into effect. They'll be in contact with all people affected - It discusses it here http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/EU%20Treaty%20Rights So,hopefully good news for many will be coming. Can't s...

From today's Irish times. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/0806/1217923985170.html More relates to non-EEA national students having to either confirm no children will be joining them, or that they will have to have the written approval of the DoJ or education that their child can be ...

I was told by the GNIB that I had to have my GNIB card on me at all times (Cork, when I was living there). Most of the time I will as I don't tend to go to too many places without my wallet, but I mean, I get the feeling they are expecting me to carry it when I, for example, go for run! I've never a...

Hi there, found the following in dete's guidelines - I am over 18 years of age and am a dependant of an Employment Permit Holder and have residence in the State on that basis – I have now finished my studies, am I entitled to avail of this Scheme? Yes. This Scheme is available, on an exceptional b...

I also see in today's Metro that INIS have posted a message regarding the Metock decision of last friday. States that all affected people will have their cases reviewed (expected to take 3-4 months) and that if you've changed your address or other circumstances have changed to please write a letter ...

Have a look at the following - http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/migrant-workers/employment-permits/work_permits/?searchterm=work%20permit It says something that you have to wait a year before you can bring dependents in on a work permit. Very bad. Is there any way you could ge...

Can I ask what the business visa states? I know that Ireland will routinely refuse work permit applications on the basis of being on a 'stamp 3', except in the case of dependents of work permit holders (which your wife would be). If in doubt, then please contact them and ask them about being in the ...

Yeah, I've heard from my New Zealand friends (incidentally there is only one difference in the road rules between NZ and Ireland) that it is tough to get insured on an international license. If you can the premiums are dear. A little bit annoying considered I've seen media coverage about how good th...

Yes, I'd not be sure of that either. My first year in Ireland was on a working holiday visa (stamp 1) yet this does not count at all, despite being able to work for whomever I pleased.

I don't think they accept LTR applications until you have been in the country for 2/5 years, see http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Long%20Term%20Residency down the bottom. I thought the ability to go for LTR after 2 years on a green card wasn't even law yet? I've been on a green card since Dec 07...

Yeah, seemingly it is all down to the childs status. I've read somewhere that those on a stamp 3 may be able to apply for naturalisation, but never stamp 2. So it seems a child in their 20s could possibly be eligible for naturalisation, even if they were tiny when they arrived here. I've never heard...

I've actually found something interesting here that could answer the question of the latter, that is). It's quite terrible that this is done. http://www.mrci.ie/publications/documents/MigrantIrelandSpring2008.pdf. There is a section regarding the children of migrant workers a few pages in. I quite h...

That's correct on both counts. A NZ passport requires 5 years residency as a permanent resident (I believe) in order to be able to apply for citizenship. Apparently it was to 'strengthen' the value of the NZ passport, but I'm suspicious it was to assist in stopping using NZ as a stepping stone as it...

Agreed. Not only do they need to address the citizenship waiting times but the waiting times for long term residency etc. The inflexibility of status changes while within the country is also a problem. I quite honestly don't blame people for wanting to move to australia. On my last visit there (give...

As far as I'm aware they only share the passport details of each others nationals due to the trans tasman travel arrangement.

Don't see anything stopping you applying to both countries.

Yes, unfortunately in Ireland immigrants are seemingly still viewed as being "temporary" in nature. I recall someone I worked with trying to bring her husband over to live with her (work permit - visa required national) recently. His application was declined on the basis of him not showing...

That's good that you've got the correct advice. I know of so many who haven't and I was one of them. I do know that the requirements for this are much more relaxed th...

How long ago did your friend do this? As far as I'm aware the labour market test needs to be performed for work permit applications (although it could be another hidden rule?). Check the following page: http://www.entemp.ie/labour/workpermits/ As of yesterday, they were processing 19 June, so not too bad a wait at all. Although there is no guarantee that you'd have the permit in this time if they ask for additional information (I'd say triple check the form and have someon...
