Re: Foreign Birth Registration

My Grandfather was born in Belfast, NI and I am claiming citizenship by descent. Is anyone in this situation like I am? I'm worried everything will have been for nothing. I was always under the impression that for the purposes of immigration and because of the Good Friday agreement, Eire was consid...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

When you say you sent copies - what do you mean? I believe that all documents need to be originals. That is apart from the passport, other documents should be originals or copies obtained from GRO (sorry I think of those as originals too) but not photocopies I believe - I could be wrong and someone...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I had to send mine to the local embassy - that was in February of this year. I actually need to email them again as I have not had a response for my request of confirmation of receipt, so like you I do not know if my application/documents are still with the embassy or if they are now in Ireland. I t...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I think a lot of people are frustrated by the conflicting information given when they call. I find this forum a huge help for information as this is the only place where people are in the same situation and understand about the waiting and it is great when others post they have had a reply but also ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi Jaxx I seen on one of your older post that you said your dad was a proud Irish man so are you not Irish under Irish law from your dad? Also did you apply for the FBR February 2018 or Feb 2019? Lee My status so far Online FBR application - 28/12/18 Documents received Balbriggan - 06/02/19 Confirm...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Starting my FBR timeline! 22 April 2019: Sent priority international from Washington, DC. 26 April 2019: DFAT acknowledged receipt today, via email, stating "Applications can take up to 6 months to process" .......and the wait begins....... Cheers, F At least you have acknowledgement, you...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Still nothing to report from me..... I am coming up to 3 months since I applied Not heard anything back from the embassy after my asking for confirmation of receipt - that was 2 and a half weeks ago now, I probably should ask again after all I am asking them to confirm they have them (even though I ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Congratulations to all who have received FBR recently. It is good to see that things are finally happening even though looking a timelines it is still taking 4 months just to acknowledge. It seems that the changing of the appearance of the certificate is delaying the process, really I don't think th...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I thought that there was an extra cost for the posting back and was under the impression that it was tracked somehow. I still haven't heard anything from the embassy when I asked them to confirm receipt and if they have forwarded it on or still have it (worded a bit better than that) I am beginning ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

  That is comical Micheal! I certainly would, because as it stands, I'm 6.5 months in and don't know if my application was correct. I checked it several times against the criteria, but without any word from the DFA, I just have to hope that when they finally bother to look at it, it's been...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I too would be happy to pay a bit more to speed up the process. I will be moving in about 2 months (tbc) so really would like to have it before then cause I know the change of address is going to cause problems.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Micheal , I think that is disgraceful. The website still states 6 months but complex applications may take up to a year but they are saying that your application will be in excess of that. I think you are well within your rights to keep on at them. I am guessing that your application should be rela...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I missed that one about changing the clock settings, how strange is that one. It is frustrating how long it takes, to put it into perspective I know someone who got citizenship for a different nationality but it took less than a month to process! So just goes to prove that it doesn't need to be comp...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

So they are now saying that it will take in excess of a year! They should then change the information on the website to state that rather than takes up to 6 months and for more complex applications (although not sure what would be considered as a complex application) up to a year, if a year is now t...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Appreciate Brexit has massively added to their workload. I did also wonder if embassies held on to documents during the move so limiting the chance of them getting lost in a big office move? Welcome to the forum :) I suppose this is possible but I sent my documents in February and also haven't had ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Just a small update! As I mentioned in my previous post that I applied in July 2018 through London Embassy. I phoned DFA today for any update. He told me that I will receive a correspondence soon. I asked him what kind of correspondence it will be. He said I can't tell you anything about it just wa...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

At least you have seen it Sulla. I think it is much better to actually take the documents to the embassy, frustrating thing with mine was that i literally went past the door when I got things certified but I had to mail them rather than take them! You have had a quick response emlyn. I applied in Fe...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I do not think changing address will be an issue at all, as long as it is done after submission of the application and you remain in the same country - meaning served by the same embassy or consulate. I did not ask about this directly, but I received this message from the embassy in January 2019, w...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I’m so glad I found this thread as I was completely confused by the email I received from the DFA a couple of weeks ago. My timeline thus far is as follows; 1. Documents recevied by the Irish Embassy in London on 22 October 2018; 2. Received an email acknowledging receipt of my application from the...

It has taken a while but at least now you are on the final hurdle and are now starting the process of the passport application.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Lee2521 Did you send your actual passport? They just needed a copy of the photo page certified. If you did this then I would try to get this back and replace with just the certified copy. Going by others timelines it is taking longer than 6 months to process - which in itself would be a long time t...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

What I have (a lot) more trouble with is understanding how printing and postage could conceivably take this long. ^ agreed, I don't agree with the un-necessary keeping hold of documents longer than needed. Even if the certificate takes longer and obviously they would print these in bulk rather than...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I'm not going to let the creeping hostility towards DFA staff go unchallenged. Waiting longer than you were expecting for anything is frustrating, but to take this as a personal slight is simply childish. Administering a generous immigration policy would be low down in any Country's priorities when...
