K1 Visa - Biography as part of submission?

Hi there, My fiance is about to file for the K-1 visa for me (I'm the foreigner). Anyway, does anyone know of any specific format or anything in particular that needs to be included in the bio that accompanies the K-1 visa application? We are going through a lawyer but as I'm here and he's there and...

Written by someone way out of their depth? Hell no. You're obviously a very on-to-it individual and the fact you love something and are looking to work towards it tells me you are in the right space. You're asking questions now in preparation - that's not out of your depth - that's very sensible and...

I'm enrolled for it through one of the internet websites. Not sure when they start the actual lottery and drawing names. I know you can do it free, but I thought it would be less hassle to have a company do itl usagc.org I think is the site I went through. I know there are scam sites out there but i...

I travelled to the US in April on my new New Zealand biometric passport and had no hassles. It took the expected 2 hours to get through the line at customs but that's about it. Took my thumb print at the check through and that's all.

Congrats on your marriage and your transition to the US lifestyle. Or should I say congrats on successfully navigating US immigration?

Hi AussieBreeze, Re visa for you guys: unless you have a skill that is highly sought after, you are sponsored by a company, an entrepreneur etc, your safest bet would probably be fiance visa. I too, would prefer to be able to have the chance for him and I to marry at our 'leisure' - but the fact is,...

Thanks for posting the article.

I wonder how long before they add NZ to that agreement- or anyone else for that matter. It sounds a bit 'big brother' to me.

Well I see it as most likely a case of love for money so I'm inclined to agree to a point. But the thought of dismemberment seems a bit harsh!

African Internet Bride Scam could be fatal

I'm not sure how applicable it is for this forum, but it may serve as a warning to someone on here even if you think it's absurd to do. A South Australian farmer held hostage in Africa for 12 days in an internet bride scam has returned home, saying he's lucky to be alive. Des Gregor, a 56-year-old f...

Hi Marco, thanks so much for your response and sharing your experience. Yeah I understand I couldn't work until we got the AOS. I have noticed that some jobs offer paid health insurance so I guess that's something I forget when looking at the cost of living. I pay a third of what my partner pays in ...

Hi Marco, Yeah the cost of living where I would be going is cheaper, but I guess it all balances out to around the same as various insurances are up to 3-4 times higher and the wages are lower. I would opt for insurance because of life's uncertainties. In my working life, I would be taking a step ba...

My mistake. No you can't. You would probably then have to look at the spouse visa (I think K-3) - which means you'd have to marry first.

I believe a US citizen can apply from outside the country to enter the US on K1 visa. I'm sure I've read that's okay. Just as long as when she does enter you both marry within 90 days of her entry.

You know, it's funny - I'm busting my butt and now looking at the potential to have to go to the US and I just look on a local US jobseeker site and see the average wage offered for the job I do is about 1/2 of what I get now. There's no free healthcare, insurance is pricey etc - and I'm wanting to ...

We want to marry. If I go to the US on a visa waiver and marry him, we could get in big trouble and I be told to leave. What makes you think that? Because the visa waiver is a waiver extended to some countries so we don't have to apply for a tourist visa which is permission to tour or visit a count...

In NZ his priors may prove a big impediment to him coming here. All NZ want to see is that you are living in a stable relationship for a certain period of time and that you are legitimate. That's not a problem. I can support him on one income to make that happen. It's the issue of him coming here. *...

We want to marry. If I go to the US on a visa waiver and marry him, we could get in big trouble and I be told to leave. So that's why I say the only reason we DON'T marry is so we don't mess things up. I know, it's odd - in years gone by it may have been the entry key to any country but the rules ha...

I've been to the various websites and spoken to a couple of lawyers. Both here for NZ immigration and there for US immigration. It just seems like it's really difficult for the 'average' person with the 'average' income to be able to get to the point where they can actually live and reside in the ot...

My best suggestion is first checking out http://www.immigration.govt.nz if you haven't already. Why? Because that's the official place to start. That is the government website which will give you an idea on what category to apply for and then once you know that, then start looking for a consultant t...

Hi Karma, I'm currently exploring this with my partner who is not from NZ - I am. You will have to produce some kind of criminal record history. In the US it's an FBI certificate that documents your history. In other countries it may just be a police certificate that details your criminal history. I...

Cost of living becomes cheaper the further south down the country you go. The further out of the main centres such as Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch you go the more affordable it tends to be. Property ownership prices range from around $280k at the lower end in Dunedin (southern part of South Is...

Hi Lotus, Civil and structural engineer? Because I'm not 100% clear on your particular line of work, can I ask - your line of engineering work, does it involve buildings, warehouses, etc ? Reason I ask is my mother is a structural engineering draftsperson (not an engineer as such though) and she say...
