Thanks for your replies. I had another idea - my mother-in-law is shy of her English and is always wishing to improve it. I thought that she might be agreeable to do a language course in Dublin - which would give her a visa and, importantly, give her something to do during the day and help her meet ...

Back in 2007 my wife paid non-EU fees to UCC. I spent months arguing with them but they wouldn't accept her for EU fees. They claimed that the individual student must have paid income tax in the previous 3 years in some EU country, and that the income tax of the spouce was not taken into account. I ...

Visa for Grandmother of Irish child

I have what is probably an unusual visa question. I'm Irish, living in Ireland with my wife and son. My wife's mother is very close to us, and particularly close to my young son. She visits twice a year for a few months each time and has never had difficultly getting a single entry visitors visa. Sh...

Re: Have a work permit--do I have stay at my job forever?

I'm a US citizen living in Ireland. I have a work permit for the specific company I work at. I will be getting it renewed this month for another 3 years. However, this means that I have to work here if I want to stay in Ireland, right? Once I get the new work permit, I assume I will get my passport...

CTA farce to continue

Reading the new " Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill ", point 14-(10)-j on page 21 indicates that deportation for those guilty of thought crimes will continue. (10) There are included in the reasons why the Minister may consider a refusal [of entry] justified the following: that in...

If you're married to an Irish citizen, rather than an EU citizen, things are a lot easier. My wife and I (Irish) arrived to the GNIB office one thursday afternoon last summer. We had been in Ireland for a few months, I'd found a job and she was looking. We'd lived in the UK before and it had taken 6...

If the Republic of Ireland were to join the Schengen agreement it would mean imposing border controls between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland of the type you currently see between, say, the United States and Mexico. Can you imagine the outrage of cross-border communities having to queu...

Iran too. There are still 50,000 Jews in Iran, and they show no signs of wanting to leave. Israel has even offered them 10k a head to move, but only a handful have.

Technically that is incorrect. The whole of Palestine was part of the Ottoman empire before the 1st world war and then was a British Mandate territory up until the UN decided to mess it all up in 1948. Before that it was ruled by the European crusaders and of course let's not forget the Romans too ...

I think there is a danger that if you leave the UK to work in another country that it will effect your application for UK citizenship.

You should check this out - but if you are applying for citizenship based on residence in the UK, you surely have to be resident in the UK!

EU members have to meet minimum human rights and democracy standards. Israel will have to improve in these areas before it can even be considered.

But on the geography question, Cyprus is 100% geographically in Asia - so not being in Europe need not be a hindrance.
