Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi all, I had a quick question on the citizenship ceremony. According to the official website you need to pay a fee of €950 and travel to Ireland in order to complete your citizenship application process. I have already submitted my FBR application and have just become aware of this extra cost. I'm...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi everyone Quick question -do we know what date the FBR office stopped processing applications? Trying to figure out how many months in I was if they received my application in May 2019. Thanks! Exact date...no, but early to mid-March as I recall. I'm a June 2019 applicant . Maybe they'll complete...

Re: Applying via Grandparent - Parent not an Irish citizen

Only you need to apply for FBR via your grandmother. Your mother is automatically an Irish citizen and can apply for an Irish passport right away. She just needs to provide proof that her mother (your grandmother) was born in the island of Ireland at the time of her birth. Quite right! I forgot tha...

Re: Applying via Grandparent - Parent not an Irish citizen

Answer to question 1: Your mother does NOT need to be on the FBR for you to apply for Irish citizenship via your grandmother. You are applying based on your grandparent being born in Ireland. That is the only necessary criteria. My mother is deceased and did not do the FBR-it doesn't matter for me to...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

My FBR application was delivered on March 4th, 2020 according to USPS. I have not received an email confirming its receipt yet. Right now they're just piling them up I'm sure. I was into my 10 month of waiting expecting another 2-3 months until completion. Now, I have no expectations of getting it d...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi again! My sister mailed me her application docs as I will be the one assembling our materials. Few quick questions: 1) her notarized passport copy was done by a different notary than her app/photo witness? Does it absolutely have to be the same person on all three items? 2) her photos have a lig...

It's the day before St Patricks Day and my passport has finally arrived! How fitting, it feels real now :D
Good for ya,mayorob! Happy St Patrick's Day to ya.Alas, CoVID-19 will surely delay application processing so I'll probably be waiting a wee bit longer now but such is life.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Sorry if this is a silly question, but is the address confirmation email obviously from the DFA? I've now gone past the 1 year point since I got confirmation of docs received in Dublin and I'm wondering (probably irrationally!) if I didn't spot it and deleted it as spam  If it's one year sin...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Well I did not miss any point, On Friday 06 March 20 I rang the passport office in Dublin nd explained the FBR act 01 July 1986 states anyone registered after 1986 cannot register their siblings unless they were born after the parent was registered. Anyone born before that falls under the 1956 act....

Hi all, Just got the last piece of documentation I need for my FBR application (from US). I have 2 questions - first what size/format to the photos need to be? Re: Irish Citizenship through Descent

Thanks. I haven't had sight of her actual birth certificate yet so unsure whether it states place of birth. I'm guessing if it doesn't state born at sea then it would be difficult to prove, and she won't be regarded as having a Irish citizenship? Would ferry records have been kept you think? Yes, y...

Re: Irish Citizenship through Descent

Hi all, I hope to claim Irish citizenship through descent however I'm not sure I qualify. My grandmother was born at sea on the Irish ferry coming to England to Irish parents, and her birth registered in England. As I understand, a person born at sea will take his/her mother's nationality. Does the...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

This doesn't apply to my situation, but just out of curiosity, does anyone know how a grandparent or parent having renounced their citizenship would affect FBR? I noticed when filling in the online application that it asked whether they ever renounced their citizenship, but it doesn't say it's a di...
