Re: Application for Dutch passport rejected

Thanks for the reply. I don't think that the Law at the time of my birth is the key factor. At the time of my rejection I was told: "Under Dutch nationality law in force since 1 January 1985 [an adult who has lived outside the Netherlands for 10 years as an adult and is also a citizen of the co...

Application for Dutch passport rejected

Hi My father was born in the Netherlands in 1940, into a wholly Dutch family, and remained a citizen of The Netherlands until his untimely death aged 49 in 1990. Although he lived in the UK for many years he never became a UK citizen. I was born in the UK in 1961 and have lived my whole life here. I...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Just applying for my Irish passport now after finally being accepted onto the FBR. Am I reading this correctly? Do I need to send my full UK passport along with my application or just a certified copy? As long as I have it back within 3 months that's fine but I just wanted to check! No, a copy cert...

Valiant – Received August 16th 2018 / Transferred to Adoption Route January 2020 Technically I wasn't transferred to the Adoption Route, but told that I never need have applied for FBR in the first place and had from the start been entitled to apply directly for a passport, which I have since done ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I wish I'd come here and read your posts a few days ago. I'm in the exact same situation as you with regard to being adopted by a British-born mother born to my Irish-born grandmother. Like you I'd assumed the adoption was regarded legally as the equivalent of being born to the adoptive parent. Unf...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I wanted to add my experience of FBR in case it helps others, and also to ask a question. I applied for FBR in August 2018. My maternal grandmother was born in Co. Carlow, so I assumed it would be quite straightforward. Having heard nothing I called for a progress update in Oct 2019. After several ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

@ PassdenaTom Further down on that web page it says: "If an Irish citizen who is living abroad adopts child abroad, they should apply for the adoption to be entered in the Register of Intercountry Adoptions". Seems like you have another step to complete other than FBR. As per earlier in th...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Yes, frustrating to wait to long, but had I researched it more and not just assumed that the position for adoptees would be identical to that for other children then I might have asked the right questions in advance and saved myself the time.

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi lainyb It does seem that way. From the Citizens' Information website : In your case: "If you were born outside of Ireland and your parent (who was also born outside of Ireland) was an Irish citizen at the time of your birth, then you are entitled to become an Irish citizen.... To claim Irish...

Foreign Birth Registration

I know this is gong to be a "D'Oh" moment, but from the FAQ: How can I search a forum or forums? Enter a search term in the search box located on the index, forum or topic pages. Advanced search can be accessed by clicking the “Advance Search” link which is available on all pages on the fo...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

New list with recent updates. Quite a few pieces of good news recently from members. August 2018 applicants and date FBR applications received / added. All received dates 2018. Thanks for this, it's a really valuable resource. My application was submitted 16/08/18 and, aside from the auto-acknowled...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Just a small (non-) update: Today is the 1st anniversary of my submitting my application. Aside from the more-or-less instantaneous auto-reply, I've heard absolutely nothing. Is there any point in chasing it up, in people's experience? If so does anyone have a number Thanks V Hi V, I'm a week away ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

As of today I am 10 months 23 days. No queries. Ian Ian, you seem one of the closest applicants on here to me, I sent off in September via London. Are you via London too? I have a good feeling it is imminent, hoping it is the case! I'd be shocked if this spills into a full 12 months. Here's hoping,...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I have said before and will say again here, that in the case of my application the submission date was acknowledged as the date of application. This formed part of an answer to a formal complaint I made and came from the head of the FBR department in writing. Legally, it is not tenable to claim any...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

In the meantime, however, Oction popped up with an August 1st 2018 application date - which means that we are no longer in the position of all the people from the start of August having been moved through. I applied on 16th August 2018 and, apart from the automatic email confirmation, have heard ab...
