I have a pending application FLR(M) marriage, can I ask my solicitor to write to home office and ask if I can get a work permit while they are looking at my case? Flr(M) waiting time

does any one have an idea how long does it take for FLR(M) application to be processed? I have been waiting 24 weeks today. I had 2 acknoledgement letters from the HO to my sollicitor since I sent the application back in oct 08.

the Application is Marriage to a british citizen

Family with a baby Born in the UK

I am writing this on behalf of some friends. they arrived may 2003 to the UK on a 6 months Visa, they never went back to Algeria. they have a baby girl who was born july 2004, in may 2008 they would have been 5 years in the UK. is there anything they can do to settle their situation? I would like to get married but I belive I need a COA for HO?
we dont have any children yet, we are planing to have one or two all been well.
I entered the UK from Belgium via eurostar with a french ID.
