Re: Foreign Birth Registration

One thing the the GRO - they are incredibly slow - - when I applied for my documents back in March I didn't get them until the end of April. If you want something quicker you have to pay a very expensive fee. I should add that the GRO are very unhelpful and not very contactable while on the other h...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

(Wishful) thinking ahead to my passport application... I am female and usually use my husband’s surname. I live in France where it’s normal for women to use their maiden name and, indeed, my EU covid vaccination passport is in my maiden name only. So I think it would be useful to have both my maiden...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

As it doesn’t seem unreasonable for me to hope for a ‘confirmation of address’ email over the summer, I’m wondering if it’s best just to let things go to my UK home, or should I inform them of my address in France where I’m currently resident? I don’t want to hold things up. My daughter could post ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

My mistake! The post is of September 2020 ... with recent statements of exasperation, similar to this forum. My celebratory imported tin of Guinness (I know!) will remain in the fridge. Happy thoughts everyone! :D Not to worry, we all make mistakes. It’s now a close race between whether I get my re...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Did anyone get an email that didn't specify their documents were received like mine? I assumed this email meant they had gotten all my docs, but seeing that others' emails seem more specific I'm starting to worry this is just them acknowledging my online app/payment... I received two emails, 1st on...

[qu ote=bronaghds post_id=2018451 time=1625043549 user_id=247344] Hi all. I've been reading some posts and I'm wondering whether my documents have been received since I mailed them December 2019. January 7, 2020 I got this email: "Your application for Irish citizenship through entry on the For...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

I just wish I knew a timescale, that's all. I am so sick of all this, I think I am starting to crack up and I just want to hold it together. :( I’ll tell you about my circumstances. We’re lucky enough to have a holiday home in France, as well as a UK home. In early March 2020 we came on holiday to ...

Re: Foreign Birth Registration

Hi All, its been a few months since I last posted and I have no good news. :( I'm glad to see that some mid 2019s are getting their certificates through now. My timeline is I applied to FBR for my children in December 2019 and got the acknowledgement emails on 27th December 2019 and no comms since....

Re: Witnesses for Foreign Birth Register application

Just to update, in case anyone else has a query about suitable witnesses. I asked a local solicitor to sign my form, as one of her colleagues had prepared our will recently. She was, rightly, very cautious as she had not met me before, although the person who did our will introduced us. In the end I...

Re: FBR Application Irish Passport

Ah, ok, it just said “if applicable, OR other change of name document”. I’ll have to order it, which means I won’t be able to post it before I go away for a month. Damn. But thank you for letting me know.

Re: FBR Application Irish Passport

I was wondering the same - whether my Irish grandfather’s marriage certificate is needed. It seems to be needed for change of name only, which isn’t the case for most men, and not for my grandfather. So I haven’t ordered their marriage certificate. I hope I’ve made the right decision 🤔

Re: Witnesses for Foreign Birth Register application

That’s great, thank you very much. I have met the vicar as she did my dad’s (sort of) funeral. So it sounds like she’s ok to be my witness anyway. Just need to work out how to get to see her without adding a long delay. I have to work overseas for a month and was hoping to get this all sent off befo...

Re: Witnesses for Foreign Birth Register application

Thank you for your reply 😊. I filled in the application form and saved the doc to my google drive so I have the check list handy. For the place where you sign and attach the photos there is a list of only 7 professions... “I certify that the applicant is personally known to me, OR She/he has been id...

Witnesses for Foreign Birth Register application

Hello all, first post for me... I am applying to be added to the foreign births register on the basis that my grandfather was Irish born. I have all the certificates etc. My problem is that I’m a bit confused about who can sign a)the form and b)the photographs. There are two lists of suitable people...
