The only straight forward and sensible way to come out of the mess is to apply for a fresh provisional licence providing real details to DVLA and hope for best.

had a similar experience (but no letter from court..., the policeman just said I should take my documents to the police station, they took the licence and post it back to me!!)
It will help if you can provide more details about your actual conviction e.g. speeding offence, drink driving etc.

Depends upon whether there were any clause/s specific to joining the said company upon accepting the offer. Normally the offer does not include any such clause/s but that does not mean that is the norm.

You should check what you have signed when you accepted the offer.

If your application for new leave to remain against you new work permit was done after expiry of your old leave to reamin against your old work permit, then UKBA will unfortunately treat this as a break in your continuous residence while considering your ILR application.

btw it can be beneficial for IT professionals staying here under tier1 since employer will be having no choice but to recruit them.
not necessarily true, you are completely ignoring local/british IT professionals. Supply is out outstripping demand for sure these days.

UKBA should have records of all of your previous WPs, and as you have mentioned SET(O) form does not list these to be provided as a part of the required document list I do not think not having original WP copies will pose any problem.

Since your initial leave to remain expired on 02nd July 2004, and assuming you got your new entry clearance (out of country) ater expiry of your earlier leave to remain, this will be considered as gap and I'm afraid will hamper your chances of getting ILR for the 5 year period starting from 24th Jul...

You have posted in the wrong topic and forum mate. This topic is specifically related to timelines for naturalisation applications.

There is a separate forum for Tier 1 where you should post the timelines for Tier 1 applications.

I did check some other posts regarding this issue(ILR on HSMP for 5 years), but apparently in most of the cases people got ILR under HSMP+Workpermit. If you cannot find enough information that you are looking for, you can start a new thread in Tier 1 section and surely co-members of the boards will...

On what basis do you think should BIA apply discretion your case?

Just because you want to end uncertainity by gaining citizenship early than you qaulify for, does not warrant discrtion to be used on part of BIA.

I stand to be corrected on this but below are my thoughts,

1. No

3. Assuming 2 is correct, yes.
