Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. Just to say may boyfriend was refused a visitor visa. We expected it, but heart breaking all the same :(

Thanks. By not being able to switch to a spousal visa, do you mean they would have to return home before expiry of visitor visa and apply for a spousal visa from there?

if someone comes to the UK on a visitor visa - not a fiance visa - can they still get married while they are here?

Hiya,
a Skills for Life ESOL course does not necessarily mean work towards citizenship. It depends on each individual course. Some have Citizenship and Living in the UK built into the curriculum. I teach an ESOL course which is called Living in the Uk and this contains citizenship materials.
