Those sponsoring family migrants applying for settlement in the UK will have to demonstrate that they continue to meet the minimum income threshold requirement. We will consider whether, where the applicant is in employment in the UK, their income should also be taken into account, alongside the sp...

I'm fairly sure that the MAC will not propose such a high threshold. In this case, their mandate is not to support the government's objective of reducing immigration, but to propose the minimum level at which the applicant "will not be a burden on the state". You can't possibly argue that...

Cameron's full speech on this today can be read here: http://www.politics.co.uk/comment-analysis/2011/10/10/david-cameron-immigration-speech-in-full It's a bit scary to be honest. It's scary how detatched from reality they are if they think a couple couldn't support themselves in less than £28k wi...

It's actually more like £28k. Can't see it being that - it's far too high, and well above the average wage.

That sounds more promising, but I don't understand why they wouldn't look at savings held in the applicant's name only - they're just as available to the couple, surely? My wife has a lot of savings in her US bank account, but it's not an account that I can be added to. It would be a pain to have to...

One thing I hadn't really thought of until now, which is slightly worrying - the idea (not even a definite proposal, they're just asking for opinions) of basing part of the system on the Danish system. Basically it's a "balance of attachment" test that means the couple would have to show a...

Oh and the person who thinks he can live in the "North" on £13,000 per year is living in a dream land...does he think that we live on fresh air!!!! For the record, my wife's American. We live in the midlands, and yes, I reckon we could live on £13,000. That's about £880 a month after t...

MWill, I here what you're saying regarding minimum income. My confusion comes from the part showing the housing costs being deducted, as it says there that they want the income level to be higher than the current level of income support we'd receive. Higher in terms of the overall earnings per year...

Below that is a table that lists amounts in other countries a sponsor must have. These amounts are monthly or annual amounts that do not take into account mortgage/rent payments and council tax - they're just flat rates, such as "793 euros a month" or "5,349 euros per year". Doe...

Man, its going to be a nervous few months for a lot of us though. I still think the biggest danger in the proposals is the minimum income threshold. If that's applied without real thought most of us are screwed. Imagine having your application refused because the 'sponsor' doesn't have loads of mon...

How many further leave to remain will those already in the route will be applying for. There is already FLR(M) what is the meaning of further then when further can not be final stage before applying for ILR. This proposal is not well planned,They just copied and paste the research done by an indivi...

I can't see that kind of level being applied either, it is plain unreasonable. We got a mortgage based on what we could jointly afford. If I lost my job or my girlfriend lost hers we'd still have £139 per week after mortgage and c tax (or much more if my girlfriend was the one still in employment....

Looks like I'd better be prepared to leave my country, then. Despite us comfortably living, no benefits, wife having good savings. Insanity. Worth noting also that about 50% of UK households have a total income of £20,000 or less, and about 30% have £15,000 or less after tax. So if they set it too...

I've been through the consultation again and I thought MWill was right until I got to page 30, where the confusion once again surfaces. If you look at the diagram on that page it shows the proposed criteria that must be met for a leave to remain application and the requirements for settlement (ILR)...

It changes a lot of lives. on the one had research says that a combined household income of 50k is mid range living but at this rate the ukba may not think so. If they make it 50k, me and my wife have absolutely no chance of ever making it, and that would probably be the case for a lot of people. D...

I've just pored through the FLR(M) and SET (M) forms and can't find a single mention of the word 'sponsor' anywhere. The person who is settled in the UK is only referred to as 'partner'. I tried to look for forms for those looking for leave to enter as the partner or spouse of someone already prese...

That's what I'm thinking. They can't say they want those remaining here to integrate and not be a burden on the tax payer but then refuse them because they have a good job, pay taxes and speak English. Thinking about it, the examples in the consultation, from what I remember, were all citizens/thos...

Surely in the consultation paper they must mean sponsor/applicant combined income and combined savings. An applicant with access to a substantial level of savings to spend in the UK (contributing to the economy), or a decent salary (paying taxes) is the perfect situation for the UKBA surely?! It sp...

Can anyone confirm if I'm right in thinking that the current system for maintenance for FLR(M) is based on income benefits? So if my partner had been unemployed when we went for our FLR(M) appointment last September, our maintenance would have been determined by adding together our mortgage payment...

Thanks! The Biometric Permit did indeed come through with her name with the extra space in it, as on the passport, so I'm guessing it has to match the passport - FLR guidance form said that, I think. Just hope it doesn't cause problems in 2 years when most other documents don't have the space, but c...

This is interesting ... am I correct in thinking that the Court of Appeal's ruling now means that ECOs and IOs will have to do more to prove that "deception" involved some form of deliberate dishonesty?

When we booked our appointment for FLR(M), we found that appointments are put up online exactly 6 weeks, minus 1 day, in advance. So say you find some online today - they should be for Wednesday 1 December. We did find, though, that the time of day that they are uploaded is apparently at random. The...
