Re: Proof of having funds to support your stay

Why don't you check the IND website: http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk It tells you exactly which forms of evidence they accept. phil Thanks Phil, I have looked on several visa and immigration sites but hadn't seen that one. I have just had a look and don't seem to be able to find the info specifica...

If you were selling a car, and someone said "I haven't actually got any money in the bank, but look at these papers, I've just sold my house", would you let them take the car away? No. I hear your point, but I guess you are not speaking from experience here. I suspect they will want proof...

Proof of having funds to support your stay

If someone applies for a visa and needs to prove they have funds to support their stay, do they actually need the money in the account, or will other documents suffice? My GF has sold her house and has the documents to prove it, but the money is not yet in her account. Does she have to wait until it...

If you have the spare room - I would consider using that as her accomodation. Agree a rent that fits into the HMRC scheme and looks reasonable both in terms of how much charged and her budget. What is wrong with a friend helping out in this way? When you apply for spouse visa in a couple of years t...

If you can not readily be her landlord - friends / family at another address. If she visited you before under what capacity did she do that. As girlfriend, friend, relative, pen pal..... Have a look at this http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/tmarent-a-room-scheme.shtml It is normal for a student to...

Why can't you be her landlord! What is wrong with renting her a room in your accomodation - that is if you have the spare room. Not that she is actually going to live it it  I could... but she has come to visit me once before on a visitor visa. Her worry is that if they see that they will thin...

Accommodation arrangements ahead of visit

My gf is coming from abroad to study at uni (she has already been accepted by a UK uni). She would prefer as far as getting the visa is concerned not to mention me, as she is scared they will think her student visa is dodgy. What she thought she would do is apply for student accommodation and just l...

That's a point, didn't think of that... do you envisage there being an issue if we declare the relationship though?

yeah, it's the whole "swings and roundabouts" thing that worries us... At the moment I am thinking of going along the lines of she will be getting her own place (the uni IS 35 miles away) and saying we are close, but not in a relationship (we have only met face to face once, albeit for a f...

My random thoughts: I hear conflicting reports as to whether it's ok that a student visa applicant can admit to a bf in this country. To me it;s smells of an attempt to circumvent the immigration rules, ie there is likely no intent to return home after studies. Added to this selling her house and e...

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I am not self employed, but I do work locally and have quite a lot of time off available to me. I am on a good salary and can support us no problem. She does know other people here but it is mainly to see me. She was looking at university but the Computer Science courses se...

I can really relate to how people describe the stresses and strains of long distance relationships now. It really does feel like everything is set...

You're in a bit of a catch 22, because what you're proposing is perfectly legal and reasonable (assuming there's no hidden agenda for her to get a job here), but it could look exactly the opposite. Your gf has twice complied with her terms of entry, but how long were each of those visits? As the la...

My ideal situation would be for her to come over on a visitor visa for as long as possible, then at the end of it she would go back and we could either marry over there or apply for a fiance visa. Why not apply for the fiance visa right away? If you are that worried she will be given a hard time at...

Should I be worried about this? http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/visitingtheuk/visitors/documents/ specifically: a letter from your employer granting leave of absence from your job for a specified period. The letter should also say how long you have been employed by that employer, in what job(s) and...

Anyone given leave to enter as a visitor at present is normally given 6 months, either by a visa issued abroad, or by an Immigration Officer at a port of entry to a non-visa national (such as South African). Where the OP's wires may have crossed is that there are proposals under discussion for the ...

sp3ctre, The 6 month entery is a stamp she would be granted on arrival, if the IO are happy with her reasons for visiting and proof of finances, accommodation and your sponorship. It is not a visa! She has already visited with no immigration breach ie at Christmas, so I can't see any reason why the...

Were the problems she had the last time with the Immigration Officer because she mentionned she had a boyfriend in the UK? Mentionning a boyfriend/girlfriend in the UK tend to do that to IOs. Also if she is now selling her home, be careful that the IO doesn't assume she is coming here to marry and ...

one other thing...

She can come over for up to 3 months (apparently) without a visa. The immigration officer gave her a hard time last time she came over (Christmas) and called me to ask if we'd met, why she was coming etc.

Would coming again on a <3 month visa be a better or worse option?
