The processing time has been roughly 6 weeks, at least for straightforward applications and for those who have not requested urgent treatment.

It was only when my wife came to UK in second week of February when we both became victims of immigration trouble. They aske...

I think it should be the date you arrived as a student, given that you were granted a "long term" visa. I'm assuming that the phrasing was designed to exclude those on tourist visas, though I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

If you entered the UK on your old passport and have stayed here since on a combination of that passport and your existing one, then you need to send both passports as evidence.

Any update whether P60 is separate to the employer's letter?

Touchsensor
No. If the P60 is deemed to be issued by the employer, then you cannot use a an employer's letter as your second piece of evidence.

If your passport expires before the date on your visa, then you will need to renew your passport, and you can have the visa transferred to the new pa...

I'd be very careful before utilising such a strategy. It would be highly unlikely that that you would meet the criteria for extension if you spent such a long time outside the countr, and as above posters have mentioned, it would also reset your ILR clock.
